Hey there folks, I'm kinda new to this whole BTC thing.. Would you have any suggestions for a good place to buy some from the UK. I'd like to do it anonymously but also avoid getting scammed at the same time.

You don't need to buy bitcoin with anonymous. You can buy bitcoin at any exchange as you can with you real identity, After that, you should mix your coin, then no one know where is your coin.

as long as you are paying for bitcoin with something other than cash, you can not be anonymous. either buy with cash or mix your coins after you bought them using a service like my current signature, that way there will be absolutely no trace on the bitcoins that you bought.

If you want the transaction to be truly anoympus you'll have to find someone who will sell you bitcoins for cash face to face and ask no questions. You can check local bitcoins to see if there's any in your area or even ask on free ad sites or the currency exchange on this forum. Just state where you live and stipulate you want to do cash in hand transaction. I'm sure you'll be able to find someone in the UK who will do this.

Do you need ID to use them? If you do it might be of no use to op. I'm not familiar with all the different types of ATMs but I do know many of them require forms of ID and sometimes handprint and face scanning. Sounds like more trouble than its worth for those ones.

As far as I know you don't need an ID with Lamassu ATMs, that is why I posted this.

Be careful when you do face to face trades. IIRC two threads popped-up sharing their story. One of them said that the trader he met tried to attack him. Always do face to face trade with trusted members and also in an open place and always keep a distance from the trader.

I think people should always be weary about doing any trades like this not just with bitcoin, but if you meet in a safe public place there's little chance of being robbed. You could also just as easily get robbed online if you don't do enough to protect yourself.

Just use localbitcoins it's p2p exchange so you deal with other bitcoin owners that are willing to sell them. 2nd option is buy throught forums. 3rd is to buy preload card like paysafe and use exchange like virwox but they charge huge fees. And the last one is to buy them normally and then mix them in mixer like bitcoinfog. You have plenty of options.

I'd go for the ATM option as well. Localbitcoins cash premiums can be monstrous and ultimately it'll always be riskier. Some ATMs are very reasonable, only a few % above the market rate.

Find an ATM near you and buy bitcoin at slightly above market price: http://www.coindesk.com/bitcoin-atm-map/http://bitcoinatmmap.com/

Granted you could make a argument they might not be anonymous if there are cameras around it though. And I'm guessing a lot of the ATM's do have cameras since the ones Ive seen are not high grade metal like a bank atm, they need some sort of camera security most likely.

Yeah you could always pay someone (you trust) to exchange money at an ATM to avoid getting picked up on cctv etc.
