The forces that do not want a U.S. nuclear deal with Iran, nor any U.S. detente with Iran, are impressive. Among them are the Israelis and their powerful lobby AIPAC, the Saudis and their Sunni allies on the Persian Gulf, a near unanimity of Republicans and a plurality of Democrats in Congress. Is there a case to be made for a truce in the venomous conflict that has gone on between us since the taking of U.S. hostages in 1979? Is there any common ground? To both questions, President Obama and John Kerry believe the answer is yes. And they are not without an argument. First, the alternative to a truce — breaking off of negotiations, doubling down on demands Iran dismantle all nuclear facilities, tougher sanctions — inevitably leads to war. And we all know it. Yet Americans do not want another war in the Middle East, with a nation three times the size of Iraq, and its allies across the region. Nor can Iran want such a war. Had the ayatollahs and mullahs wanted it, they could have had a war with the United States at any time in the third of a century since they seized power. Be radical, have principles, be absolute, be that which the bourgeoisie calls an extremist: give yourself without counting or calculating, don't accept what they call ‘the reality of life' and act in such a way that you won't be accepted by that kind of ‘life', never abandon the principle of struggle.

I can understand the Israelis and the Saudis opposing any deal with Iraq, but why Republicans? It should be obvious to all Americans that peace with Iran is in their country's best interests.

Well, that would require far more foresight and concern for their country's interests than most politicians can muster - usually, where the next "campaign contribution" is coming from is all they really care about. Incidentally, Israelis and Saudis are not all that different here: the vast mass of the population has very little to gain, and potentially a lot to lose, if negotiations with Iran falter; on the other hand, there's a lot of money to be made from conflict, or the threat of conflict (just look at "security" spending in Israel and compare it to the skyrocketing cost of living there), and it all tends to make the population far more malleable and controllable - thus ensuring those in power, stay in power.

It's not a good time for war specially NOW with all the isis growth. There's a common enemy in the Middle East and countries should realize that and unite their forces. Sometimes it feels like they're in the middle of Game of Thrones and don't realize the white walkers are coming...

It's funny that the author attributes the venomous conflict to 1979 when the Iranians took American hostages, and not 1953, when the US overthrew the democratically elected government. But I guess there's not harm in continuing the narrative that we're never at fault for blowback, right?

Problem is, AIPAC is the most powerful lobby in the US and most republicans have been brainwashed in that Israel is the most important issue of the day and always will be. Especially evangelicals or born again Christians who's preachers knowingly or unknowingly mischaracterize the Bible's statements on the Jews being the one and only group that matters. I'm pro-Israel but not to the point of them dictating everything this country does overseas. Furthermore, when this country is so broke I don't see how anyone can justify the foreign aid that we shell out unless you're the state department that likes to broker allegiances around the globe w/ the peasants' money.

Also, Israel has many hundreds of nuclear weapons while Iran has none and likely just want the capability for the power sources tho I could be wrong. Back in 1982, Israel unilaterally bombed Iraq's nuclear building facility and very few in Congress or govt supported their right to defend themselves by doing so besides Ron Paul - and we all saw the treatment he was meted out in the media: anti-semite because he wasn't for blind support for them. So, it's not like Israel can't settle another score on their own w/o us having to spend billions more in the region.

Talks still seem to be deadlocked, so Israel might have nothing to worry about. Iran Nuclear Talks Deadlocked 48 Hours Before Deadline for Dealhttp://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2015-03-28/un-sanctions-main-obstacle-to-iran-nuclear-deal-hitting-deadline Iranian and Western diplomats gave dueling accounts of what is needed to reach a nuclear accord in the remaining 48 hours before their deadline, with each side saying the other must make tough choices.
Foreign ministers from six world powers and Iran will meet on Monday morning in Lausanne. It’s the first such session since talks were extended in November, and follows five days of negotiations in the Swiss town. Diplomats remain divided over the pace of easing sanctions on the Islamic Republic, and the limits to be imposed on its nuclear program.

Iran deal worse than Israel feared, Netanyahu saysPrime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned Sunday against the emerging nuclear deal with Iran, as Iranian and Western officials in Lausanne, Switzerland were rushing to reach a framework agreement by an end-of-month deadline. “After the Beirut-Damascus-Baghdad axis, Iran is maneuvering from the south to take over the entire Middle East,” Netanyahu said at a cabinet meeting, one of the last for his outgoing government. “The Iran-Lausanne-Yemen axis is dangerous for mankind and must be stopped.” Netanyahu told ministers that he had spoken with Republican leaders in the US Senate and “conveyed our serious concern regarding the arrangement with Iran at the nuclear talks. This agreement confirms all our fears and exceeds them. More... http://www.timesofisrael.com/iran-deal-worse-than-we-thought-netanyahu-says/

Defector: 'USA Negotiating Team Mainly There to Speak on Iran's Behalf'An Iranian journalist writing about the nuclear negotiations between the United States and Iran has defected. In an interview Amir Hossein Motaghi, has some harsh words for his native Iran. He also has a damning indictment of America's role in the nuclear negotiations. “The U.S. negotiating team are mainly there to speak on Iran’s behalf with other members of the 5+1 countries and convince them of a deal," Motaghi told a TV station after just defecting from the Iranian delegation while abroad for the nuclear talks. The P 5 + 1 is made up of United States, United Kingdom, Russia, China, France, plus Germany. Only Israel wants war with Iran. Everyone else (including Obama) is not interested in poking Iran unnecessarily. In that case, Netanyahu should declare war against Iran and wage the battle alone, rather than forcing the NATO to act like his poodle.

Peace with Iran -> Oil down - > ??Bitcoin down??
No, bitcoin doesn't trade like a commodity, a currency or a bond, it just does what it wants! America strangely seems to be moving away from Israel at the moment. I think it will only last until the next election, when someone who is more pro-Israel gets in. In the meantime it'll be interesting to see what Israel does when Iran is allowed to trade freely and expand it's local power base. I think the whole oil situation at the moment might be part of the Saudi/Iranian game.
