The tax agency has requested BTCX to disclose information about customers' buying and selling of bitcoins, partly to get information about how many bitcoins are bought and sold, reported local media outlet DN.se.

But according to BTCX, the request also means that the exchange will have to disclose the "unique code," or ID number of each customer linked to his or her digital wallet. Along with personal information, this would reveal all clients' identities and harm their privacy.

BTCX has taken the issue to the Administrative Court and requested not to comply with the tax authority's demand.

It will be difficult, but I hope these guys win on court. The users are indeed not ready to be completely spied on. One thing is authorities knowing what's up on the exchange, other thing is the authorities being able to track transactions and addresses related to the exchange's clients.

If they win, I hope this case serves as an example!

I think this isn't about punishments. They want to if some of their citizens are trying to evade paying taxes. No idea however, why they are interested in my account too.

That's one of Sweden's big problem. It's very difficult there to do anything without the government being part of it. It would be a huge victory, if that exchange were successful in hiding its clients' identities.

The government would do well to establish some kind of threshold level.
Requesting details about all consumers / transactions is a bit excessive.

Swedish is a big joke, the best part must be swedish and getting insulting amounts of welfare while the rest pay taxes. They get the highest welfare to my knowledge. There was a guy here talking about it.

Pretty sure they want to know who owns BTC, so they can knock at people's doors in case BTC itself becomes illegal.

Same reason why Uncle Sam registers people buying gold, guns or Bitcoin. It is not about money laundering or taxes, it is about knowing who owns what. Hitler, Stalin, Roosevelt, Mao, they all loved KYC
