So stuff like this doesn't occur:

Why weren't all the 0.00000001 payments to 1HMERtWN7Y34irfnYEzdWgxNf8g89LP2vA consolidated into a single amt?  What is the purpose of sendmany?

Thought I'd add that I was under the assumption that 'sendmany' would combine these 0.0000001's into a single balance on the '1HMER' address.  

Knowing it doesn't work that way, for what reason would you pay double fees to use 'sendmany'?

(oh, and why would it send these balances of 0.000001 when the HMER account had received a deposit that would have covered the transferred amount one hundred fold three transactions earlier?)

If they were being combined, then they wouldn't be sending out single amounts of 0.0000001.

No, you just are lacking common sense.

I shouldn't have to do a separate transaction to combine a balance.  Obviously (Huh!) the 0.00000001 balance will cease to exist after it has been spent.

The initial 0.00000001 should have been combined with what I already had.  Duh?

zvs, Are you complaining about the fact that sending from 1HMER will have a high transaction cost, because it has 160 unspent inputs? Here's the solution:
Send 0.85055316 BTC from 1HMER to 1HMER without including a transaction fee. It will eventually be included in the blockchain.

From there, you can spend the 0.85055316 BTC easily (by easily, I mean the transaction will be small in size, ca. 250bytes), because there will only be 1 unspent transaction.

sendmany is used to send money to multiple addresses while paying 1 transaction fee.

This whole conversation is silly because transactions without fees are still processed quickly.

Transaction inputs must be comprised of previous outputs.
Doesn't matter that your address had a combined balance of 0.005 BTC.
If that "balance" was there because there were 500 outputs from previous transactions, then, when you send those 0.005 BTC the transaction will have as inputs all of those 500 previous outputs, not a single input of 0.005 BTC.

ah, that's a good idea... and just after i had recompiled w/o the tx fee.  i think i'd have to solve a block on p2pool for these to actually go through though, i have it set to accept everything up to 2MB in size
