0) General Information + Hardware Needed to buy
The Avalon 4.1 miner is a solid miner from it's metal case to it's performance with under clocking capabilities.  In the worlds of Avalon "Avalon4.1 – 1.3T consists of 40 A3222 chips, with improved heat dissipation, which can be controlled by Raspberry Pi or TP-Link TL-WR703N."  Below is list of items you need to buy in addition to miner.  Ofcourse some of you might have these in your parts pile and already be a step ahead.

• Standard power supply with 4 PCI-E 6 Pin adapters (up to 1000 watts depending on setting, also at underclocked you only need 2 PCI-e cables(One on each blade).)
• Raspberry Pi or TP-Link TL-WR703N
• Network cable

1) Unpacking
The miner had a decent sized trip from from EHash to my door in middle of US.  It was shipped via DHL and made it to my door in 5 day's. First thing you will notice is a box.  Mine made the journey without any problems as you can see below.   And in the second picture you can see it was well protected with styrofoam around the miner.

3) Install
The install is not hard at all with the guides posted on EHash: http://downloads.canaan-creative.com/people/lili/doc/controller/

First you will need to flash either a Raspberry Pi or the TPlink.  I personally chose raspberry pi as I had one laying around.   The main guides I used were:

As far as a general guide you will reflash your Raspberry PI with a pre-made image of a custom DDWRT install for the Avalon hardware.  After flashing you need to connect to the Raspberry PI.  In my case I had to log in and change the IP address to 192.168.1.X IP.   I would say it's a 15 minute install if you don't have any trouble.  I did run into some trouble and Canaan-Creative does have a great support team and they helped me though it.

4) Running
For these results I am running at a under clock

• Sound:  This miner is crazy quiet with a underclock and fan at default of 20 percent.  I went to take a YouTube video to show off how quiet it is.  I had to turn off my overhead fan, my projector, and close my window.   And still could barley hear it.  Link to video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d7UTdo_4AaQ

5) Conclusion
This was a perfect fit for me getting ready for summer mining.  I was able to run it at a under clock making it a very efficient miner. The heat exhaust is manageable even though winter is over for me. The install was easy with use of the guides, no big surprises during my install.  And only problem I had the support was great and nice to work with.  It seems to be built with a solid metal case, and solid performance.  The biggest surprise was how quiet this miner can be.  It is the first miner I actually put in my bedroom and cannot hear it across the room.   I have other miners from big and small, water cooled, and nothing is comparable on so little sound.  I will keep it running and post how it goes overtime but it is a very good miner from my experience so far.

In this review we have went over most of the technical spec's already.   In this section we will hook up multiple Avalon 4.1's.  They will be running the same under clock mentioned in first part off the review. Below are parts needed in addition to parts in first review.

• Standard power supply with 4 PCI-E 6 Pin adapters.  Power depends on what speed  you will be running the miners at (In my under clock each extra miner you need to add a PSU with over 550 watt's also at underclocked you only need 2 PCI-e cables(One on each blade).)
• USB Hub to connect 3 to Raspberry Pi

2) Install
Adding a miner is extremely easy.  You have already done the setup in the first review.   It was literally as simple as plugging a hub into the Raspberry PI, and plugging the Avalon miners into it. Below is a picture of Raspberry Pi with a hub and 3 miners plugged into it:

3) Running
For these results I am running at a under clock just like in part one.  It has three Avalon 4.1 miner's running in this example.

4) Conclusion
This was a great addition to my summer mining gear.  I was able to get 2.7 T plus around 1650 watts.  This allows it to remain very energy efficient, as well as still being quiet.  The install of a additional two miners was surprisingly easy.  Just installing a hub, previous settings kept it to plug and run on additional miners.  I have ran them all for over 3 day's at this point.  It still keeps it's stability and each miner runs great.  I still give this miner very high marks hen running multiple, and say it's perfect for summer mining.

Questions And Anwsers

• How do you get in the case? There are 4 screws on the side of the fan compartment after the fan compartment will slide out, then 2 more screws on the sliding panel.  After all 6 screws are out you can easily slide the panel
• If you are completely stuck who do you talk to? Canaan-Creative has a great support team and are very helpful.  They helped me when I could not detect my miner.
• Is the Raspberry PI reliable? So far it's been great.  I am using a Raspberry Pi V1 B, and with one miner it's always has had over 90 percent of cpu on idle.
• What if you want to use a TP-Link? Make sure to get the newer model of: TP-LINK TL-WR703N the older model of TP-LINK TL-WR702N lacks the usb port needed

Thanks I appreciate the nice words.   I am running a old RaspberryPI Version B. Looking at CPU usage it is sitting around 97-95 percent idle it appears most of the time.  Cgminer is using the most CPU power I have seen it jump to 7 percent only a few times it's pretty solid at 2-3 percent.  This is running with one miner, looking at stats it has a lot more power to do multiple for sure.

With it being summer temps here I did not do much much on the 1.3 TH.  It did get louder where I would not want it in my bedroom at that speed.  I personally am amazed at how quiet it is.  I'm running at around 950GHs.   You could go down even more to ECO and do with even less fan.  But the speed I'm at seems to work great at a ambient temp in mid 70's so far.

I run 3 avalon 4.1's  on my rasp pi model b  the one that uses the sdcard not the mini sdcard. I use a good 8gb sdcard like this
I run them at 850gh each and use 1400 watts .  I use a evga 1600 p2 psu

total 2550gh using 1400 watts.  very happy with this gear it is quiet.

when summer comes round I will drop to 1500gh and 700 watts

Yeah you can run it anywhere without sound issues at 900gh it is really quiet. 

at 750 gh it gets better watts per gh and is close to silent.

That's definitely the right price for running them at good w/gh speeds.  I'd grab 4 at that price myself.

Yah the price would need to be near Bitmains S5 now to regain anything at all.  Too bad their price point is a $100 more than what's feasible for us to buy it at.  It looks like a great product due to it's solid compact build and especially the silence.  Wish this would have come out at the end of the last year.

I was hoping to keep a day log of it running.  It ran perfect no problems until a storm took out the power for my house.  So starting back at 0 hours.

On day 3 at this point.  Weather has cooled down some so miner is doing great.  I can't even hear the fan right now at all.  You will see cold weather let RPM go down ever more.

It did do a restart as my house temporary lost power during storm.  It was no fault of the miner, but that is why time up is not on 3 days.
