I saw this on another thread...

That is a great way to spread the word about Bitcoin.  Not only do more people learn that Bitcoin is an alternative to dollar, euro, yen, - but the message gets passed around, and around, and around while the old school currencies are diminished.

Let's use old school currency (fiat) as our message carrier.  Where can I buy a stamper to stamp all my notes?  If everyone  also buys a stamper and stamp notes in their country - EVERYONE will know about Bitcoin in a hurry.

Somebody please organize sales of stampers and tell us where to buy them!!!  You could make a shit ton of Bitcoin if you started selling these next week.  I'd buy one today!!!

A very curious thing about this, it is NOT illegal.  The law defines 'illegal' defacement as defacement that renders bills unfit to be re-issued.

Advertising a product is illegal.  Marking a bill with ink which is not a commercial advertisement isn't.  http://www.moneyfactory.gov/historicallegislation.html   There is one guy who knows all about this in great detail.  He's had many personal talks with the Secret Service regarding this point.  His name is Hank.  This is his company which dealt with this on a very serious level: http://www.wheresgeorge.com/.  Contact him if you want to know why it is legal to do this.

Surely a cheap and effective way of promotion. But I remember there was a discussion about it on reddit, many bitcoiners didn't like it at all, saying it's kind of cheap and intrusive. It could be pretty irritating to see your banknote polluted with unwanted advertisement. So the effect could be opposite to intended, instead of people going to a website to learn about it, you could get: "I don't know what Bitcoin is but I already don't like it".

There are already plenty of businesses out there that makes custom stampers. Just google it. Although the bitcoin symbol could be a problem.

This was posted by Kim Dotcom on his twitter Smiley I don't think this would be a cool way to spread the word... People don't usually like to get bent fiat notes, I imagine what would it be if it had something marked... people wouldn't like to pay with one of those. Maybe something less intrusive would work Smiley

I think it's illegal to write on cash, but I don't think a merchant will not accept that buck.

I kinda like it. To me it seems like effective guerrilla marketing or something Banksy would do. I think it actually spreads a good message and would definitely pique people's interest. Whether it's illegal or not shouldn't matter as you're very unlikely to get caught anyway and fuck tha police.

I think the negatives would outweigh the positives. I think it would adequately spread the message of bitcoin and it's all for free.

Somebody please organize sales of stampers and tell us where to buy them!!!  You could make a shit ton of Bitcoin if you started selling these next week.  I'd buy one today!!!

Just make a stencil yourself and print it on to some card the spray paint the bills. Simples.

Yep, makes people remember Banksy, definitely... And that one time he forged a million pounds and ended up not distributing them because they were too real, lol

people wouldn't like to pay with one of those.
then they could keep it forever and ever. i think it would be good to use these on a lot of currencies. instead of just stamping one bill in the stack, i'd stamp every last bill.

...

You can buy rubber stamps with three sets of different sized letters ("movable type") at Office Depot.  Does not cost much.

SWIM once stamped "END THE FED" (having been inspired, no doubt) on some FRNs, no problem spending them I hear.

The possibilities are endless...    Smiley

I hate stamps on notes, it makes us look like cultist more than anything.

I think the dollar bill is already pretty culty with its Masonic imagery and religious shit on it so putting something like this especially being the anti-thesis of the centralised fed seems quite apt.

For me, the font size is a bit too big. We just need to convey the message. For that, smaller font will do the job. And it won't irritate people who are not interested in Bitcoins as well.  Grin

Banks and some merchants write on them all the time when they're counting them up. Maybe some shops might refuse them if there's extensive or excessive graffiti on them though.

Very clever I must say.
However, for this to have any effect you would have to cooperate with all bitcoiners in your area.
It could work pretty well in areas with a lot of active bitcoiners.

It seems kinda standoffish to say plan b... Maybe if it were more of an alternative with benefits as opposed to a competitor.
