Everytime I pay for something I always ask if they take BTC.  Try it, see how many people ask you what the hell you are talking about.

Furthermore most of those people that actually have heard of it think there is some Bitcoin CEO..

I dont think it makes sense to ask at a gas station or 7eleven. But for online purchases
it makes sense to politely ask if they plan to implement bitcoin payment at some point
in time.

Oh but it does, will the accept it no, but it will plant the seed in their head.  When they hear the word bitcoin they will get curious as they remeber you menitoning it.

I agree about online retailers in particular. I made a payment this morning for some medical supplies using their online bill payment system. As an afterthought I found the comments/feedback link and wrote a polite query about when they would be announcing that they accept bitcoin. (I always ask WHEN, not IF they will accept it). I then followed up with some brief comments on the advantages of accepting bitcoin, cost savings using my own payment just made as an example, and referenced Coinbase and Bitpay (while also mentioning they could develop an internal solution using bitcoin).

If we keep plugging away, it will bear fruit. Just be upbeat, keep pointing out the advantages, and don't give up. People are very rational over the long run with financial choices (i.e., they like to save money and be more efficient), they just need good information to work with.

I once asked my Economics teacher if she had ever heard of bitcoins. After a minute of discussing it to her, she finally asked me a question:

"Is that a scam after all? I haven't heard of it yet, and it sounds kinda fishy if you would ask me."

After that incident, I didn't bother to ask her about it again. But luckily, some of my friends noticed what I'm doing every recess time, posting here in the forums and reading posts that catches my interest. And to this day, I know 4 people who use bitcoins for their online purchases and visit this forum every now and then. If I didn't get the nerve to discuss it to them, then maybe they wouldn't get to know bitcoins as well as its innovative technology and interesting features.

Haha no wonder if crappy news sites produce such statements. Most people don't even read articles anymore, they just read catchy phrases and act like they actually know something.
The CEO of Bitcoin apparently died last year...

Most people i have asked havent heard about it before. But i agree, way more people know about bitcoin versus the amount that actually uses it.

Most people answered that they didn't know what is bitcoin when I asked them, but those interested in gambling definitely knew.

So many people that don't know Bitcoin means that there is a lot potential growth that we can generate.

And some have heard about Bitcoin, but via the media. Which gives them the impression that Bitcoin is only used for illegal transactions.

Just take the time to explain them how useful it is and what the real purpose of Bitcoin is. I'm sure most of them will think different about Bitcoin.

Just because it is not widely accepted right now doesn't mean that for years down the road it is going to be the same scenario. What is more important is the consistent growth rate in terms of adoption so if I seeing something making progress I know that for sure it is moving in the right direction.

Ordinary people re the key. Big chains are gonna introduce BTC as soon as they get asked to do so many times by the ordinary people.

Yeah, I have never seen anyone taking Bitcoin in real life. Those that say "everyone know about it but noone is accepting it" are obvious FUDsters that go on the ignore list.

Many merchants and employers here in our country already know about bitcoins. The thing is, they are scared of the high volatility in price that might affect their businesses and clients as well. They know about it, true, but are scared to touch it because of those roller coaster-like charts. Give them time to think about it and they will probably consider accepting it in the future.
