Can someone explain how to create a private pool for me and some people I know to mine together?

You could use pushpool: http://forum.bitcoin.org/index.php?topic=8707.0

ok let me be a bit more clear: I don't want to create a pool that gives out shares to different clients and splits the reward evenly. I just want to know how to set up so that others can connect to my bitcoin server over the internet for mining, so that it would be the same as if I was solo mining with multiple video cards.

If that is all you want, you just need to edit your bitcoin.conf, and make sure the rpc port is available from the outside (forward the port on your router).

Normally, yes, but you can set it in the conf file.

pushpoold is if you want some type of logging/administration/tracking

otherwise it's very opaque, unless you have GH/s I guarantee you'll get anxious about whether or not your pool is working - bitcoin won't show you if anything is happening...

perhaps this solution is more to your taste - http://forum.bitcoin.org/?topic=1458.0
