The easier it is to tip, the more likely it would happen. Specific sites have chats that allow you to easily send bitcoin to other users. When someone makes me laugh, I send them some bits. I occasionally send a few for other reasons.

However, if you were to use the amount of tips received as some metric for whether or not that person is deserving of such tips, that's where things fall apart. Bitcoin tipping is so transient and easy that it does little to measure any kind of reputation. Now if you were to limit the power to tip or the amount one could tip, tipping would mean more.

Doge tipping? Sure why not? It's practically worthless monetarily, so I have no problem parting with it.

Exactly what I was thinking.  Bitcoin has become so valuable (at least in our eyes) that parting with it seems hard.  On the other hand, tipping with Doge is so easy.  You would even feel better for yourself for doing it.

I think I have my answer the moment the first hour of this thread passed.  Majority is a "no", I assume.  But i wish we could actually see that in the poll though.

I mostly tip with Bitcoin on "Reddit" and "Youtube"... and I see tons of other people doing it too...

In a way, I can see the point you are trying to make.. and I kind of agree with the other posters... Dodgecoin has a lower price and has been seen as Monopoly money... People play with that and use BTC as a store of value. {They are all waiting for the price to increase again, for them to double or triple their original investment... and this is the reason why they are hoarding it} Wink

I'm really curious about this because I feel that Bitcoin tipping really hasn't taken off... or will not take off like Dogecoin tipping did.  With Bitcoin being the most popular cryptocurrency, people would naturally want to tipped in BTC.  But the way things are, BTC is being hoarded and kept.

So yeah...  Just curious what the majority thinks about the tipping concept in BTC as opposed to Dogecoin tipping.

changetip has probably made 3 times the amount of people tip BTC then before, i think tipping in BTC tipping will see more development in next year with services like protip etc.

Can you list more tipping services here?  I would really appreciate it.  And I think it would be good for the community to become aware overall.  All I know is ChangeTip and TipJar(?)..

Dogecoin Tipping was an entirely different concept. Dogecoin took off primarily, because people just used to send an amount like 1000 doge, which didn't have much value, and it was just to show appreciation.

Its the same with BTC but when I consider tipping ,and am not tipping a huge amount, I tend to not send anything, as it would hardly make a difference if I tip someone 50 cents in bitcoin, to someone who is new to bitcoin. But now the tipping system really has been improving. Changetip has changed and made it a lot easier to tip, and since if they don't claim it you get your coins back, and this lets you tip a lot of people who may or may not claim it.

I tipped a guy on reddit once, other than that I've only ever tipped people on dice sites and I don't even know that I can tip on youtube Tongue

I got tipped twice on bitcointalk too.

like the previous posters already said, implementing some kind of tipping feature will make it happen more frequently.

I haven't tipped anyone so far mainly because I don't hang out too much at reddit or twitter and those are the only places I know where one can tip others using changetip but if it is enabled here then I might when I see a content that's worth tipping.

if you implement a tipping service here wouldn't that create a flood of beggars trying to get a penny?

i have never used a tipping service yet and probably won't in the near future but i see how it can be useful.

well, it's not so different than creating a "donation" thread and posting your bitcoin address, so probably they won't increase too much.
besides, I'm sure that most of the people that knows bitcoin also knows bitcointalk and its rules.

I'm sure there might be a few but they'll be handled just like any other beggars are around here. I think the idea of tipping is to reward great content not encourage or reward the opposite.

I think we are comparing against two different scenario. At this stage when bitcoin price has already reach that high level, you will need somebody who is generous enough to give all his coins away. Whereas in dogecoin, it is still about a year ++ in its infancy stage and still considered cheap. And don't forget when bitcoin was at its early days, it was very much the same scenario as it was also being given away freely.

Another reason is that in dogecoin, the standard tipping amount if let's say one were to tip 200 doge, it would not be a problem. But 200 doge in btc translate to about 10000 sats which is just about enough to pay the transfer fee. Certain people are deceived by the fact that 200 sounds like a very big number.
