This thread should list all the stages and people can change their votes as they feel the investor emotion change.  Then it would be a decent indicator.

this gave me a good idea. i will try to start a bitcoin barometer with polls every week or month so that i am able to collect the current and future opinions of investors to generate a chart out of it.

i have setup a domain with limesurvey http://www.btc-barometer.com

now i have to research which questions to ask and how to calculate an indicator out of it. are there any good ideas??

Eufearia maybe?

Excellent new word, I will use it from now on whenever I'm asked for my thoughts on Bitcoin.

I wrote it in to Webster to be included in the new edition of the dictionary:

eufearia
[yo̅o̅fēr′ē·ə]

1. (finance) The feeling that the parabolic growth of your money may have unfortunate consequences.
2. (driving) The proper emotional response when someone realizes that a mountain road has been replaced by a canyon.
3. (skydiving) The brief realisation that the backpack you're wearing is, in fact, Bobs diving gear.

I would do the classic most simple thing:

Are you bullish or bearish regarding the Bitcoin price (in USD) within the next week/month/year?

Vote [] bullish [] bearish

Something like this. Percentage bulls/bears is a simple, yet quite valuable indicator.

Edit: Didn't see that this is already done here: http://www.bitcoinbullbear.com/

If I'm having trouble sleeping knowing that Bitcoin trades 24/7 and someone might move the price substantially (up or down) by the time I wake up, would that be fear, or euphoria...?

19 Nov 2007 – Probably what will happen is that while the stock markets careen around in a whirlwind of eufearia (which is the opposite of euphoria)...

But this thread is number one on (my) google now, so we win.
