Current options are:

ICQ:
This is your ICQ number.

AIM:
This is your AOL Instant Messenger nickname.

MSN:
Your MSN messenger email address.

YIM:
This is your Yahoo! Instant Messenger nickname.

Most of these are so old, can we add a Crypto related Messenger to the list please? Most promising one is GetGems and has some active support at Bitcointalk. It works with usernames and at the same time it can be used with Telegram.

Each block is stacked on top of the previous one. Adding another block to the top makes all lower blocks more difficult to remove: there is more "weight" above each block. A transaction in a block 6 blocks deep (6 confirmations) will be very difficult to remove.

Instead of GetGems I prefer to use telegram, but I think it is not necessary to add (or change) another field. You can put your nickname/number in "other contact info". Here someone has made the same request but for telegram : https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=977465.0

This thread is in the “New forum software” section, right? Then, why don't we pick the IMs to include from scratch, rather than depend on choices made for a years old software?

An economy based on endless growth is unsustainable.

I see i mentioned GetGems because it supports Bitcoin and is slowly catching on to the average user with being very simple to use so what better way to set its foot here and it would suite this forum well, better would be to delete some the existing once since nobody uses them anymore really and add newer technology IMs like GetGems / Telegram? That list definitly needs an update anyway.

GetGems looks interesting, but from what I have seen there is no online version, and this is a mainly desktop forum.  Unless I just can't find it, I don't think it would be a good match for the forum since it is only mobile.

I think either BitMessage or Telegram would be better suited.

Good point indeed, they mentioned on Twitter they are working on a web interface. Nonetheless i think the new forum should include these new messaging technologies.

Agreed.

Why pick at all? Just let each user add a contact channel and the ID. Sure it makes sense to have pregenerated options for the most common ones, but there will always be something new and it makes no sense to change this every time.

Im not really here, its just your imagination.
