It would be nice if there were other options that included not just PPS but DGM as well.

Pools that do offer it:

Eligius offers mining with just an address as well.

Hmm... I could look at adding DGM to the anonymous mining... It was kind of an intention from the start, but so many other things have gotten ahead in priority.

If you're searching these lines for a point, you've probably missed it.  There was never anything there in the first place.

BTC Guild will be introducing anonymous (mine-by-address) mining in the next month hopefully, when the new pool software (with the new protocol) is enabled.

mmpool.bitparking.com used to do anonymous by address but when I switched to merge mining I needed a way for a user to provide all the alt coin addresses so I switched to needing to register where you supply the alt coin addresses at registration time. It's still anonymous though since it doesn't require any email addresses, passwords, etc.

The other option I considered was having an anonymous address and having the alt coins send to that address too - the user could then import the private key into their alt coin wallets but this was a bit technical for some users.

If you want to be anonymous on a pool that uses usernames, just pick a name people won't recognize as you.

Same thing on a pool that uses a bitcoin address instead of a username. To be anonymous you have to use an address people don't recognize as yours.

What's the big advantage of using a BTC address as username?

No one could hack your acount and steal your coins but alot of pools let you lock your btc address now days so thats not really a threat as it used to be.
