make me an offer on 4 working 5870s, 1 "sorta damaged" 5870? the damaged one is just missing two of the pins for the fan power connector on the card. two of them are missing backplates. four of them have the ATI reference fans in them & still working, the fifth "sorta damaged" one has a fan ziptied on it and the shroud removed. can send shroud separately & also a reference fan that works. don't have the two backplates, no clue where they ran off to. in essence, 2 are in "normal" condition, one has a backplate with a fan ziptied on to it, w/ a shroud I can include, but the fan power connector doesn't work because a couple of the pins have broken off, the other 2 are in normal condition except for a missing backplate. 2 are asus, 1 is HIS, 1 is XFX, and 1 is unknown. all are reference cards, 1GB memory i could also toss in another 5870 that doesn't post at all, but still has value i assume (heatsink is on it, if nothing else... and some handy pins you could solder on to the card that's missing 2). it doesn't have a backplate or shroud and a 5970, which i'm 95% sure doesn't work, but not positive. it used to be watercooled and i don't have the original heatsink & fan for it. i was told it didnt work & never really bothered to test for myself. just the card itself, no heatsink or anything else.

I have a Sapphire 5850 Xtreme. The card will drive a display, but once mining commences, it is only a matter of time before the system freezes. It could be minutes, it could be hours. I had to scavenge its fan for use on another GPU, but the case fan I super-glued onto the housing cools much better than the original fan did. It's also quieter, though it does take up a good deal more room and of course is not speed variable. There is a small spot of red foam stuck on the back of the PCB, but it's been there, not affecting performance, since I bought the card almost a year ago.

I have a MSI Twin Frozr 2 6870.
Displays/Games/Mines just fine.
Issue is that the fans do not work as well as they should. (Almost like they do not get enough power). If the card is idle, and fan speed % is left on Auto, the fans either run at a very low rpm or not at all. but once the card is in use (or I adjust the fan speed % in afterburner) the fans will kick on but do not spin as fast as I know they should. So obviously it can not be used to it's full potential otherwise it gets hotter than I would like it to run at. (Sorry for being vague, not at home so I do not have the numbers in front of me right now).
I have been debating putting on a new fan assembly and running it, since it does not seem to be too big of an issue. (Like I said everything works except the fans act funny).
If interested shoot me an offer, otherwise I will tinker with it and see if I can fix it. (It has just been sitting around, unused, for about a month. I am pretty willing to get rid of it, but Im not looking to get slaughtered price wise.....especially since it seems to be just a fan issue)
Thanks

I have two XFX 5870s that just need new fans. I used them before I heard about bitcoin, so they were only used for gaming and a maybe a couple of months sporadically on BOINC projects. I thought about fixing them and building a 2cd machine just to mine, but I would have to buy all the other parts too. Everything was working great on them (ok maybe not always ATI's drivers lol) until the fans died. One fan completely froze up and one just sounds horrible. If you might be interested shoot me a PM.

I guess I'll take another shot at this thread. I have two cards. The first is a Dell?/OEM Radeon HD 5870. Was mined on ... I lost track how long. Likely about a year though doing SHA256. It does output video. It does successfully boot into Windows, and continues to boot successfully after driver is installed. The card even works (usually?) with OCCT:GPU:3D and Furmark, but presents with major artifacting or driver crashes when tested with 3DMark 2011. All 4 VRM chips seem to be healthy (not dead; no abnormally high spiking temperatures). The fan currently spins freely as well, but it has been oiled once in the past a few months back. A tiny access hole on the face of the fan has been created to allow re-oiling (It is beneath the black electrical tape). I have not reflowed this card. As it stands, I don't think this is suitable to game on. It might work fine if you want to bitcoin mine on this, but when plugged into a multi-GPU computer, it freezes the entire computer when put under load. When plugged in by itself, it mined fine for the couple minutes I tried it by itself. The other card I have that I just pulled from my systems is an OEM 5970. It has a new fan. The core and memory of both master and slave work fine. The only thing wrong with this is 2 of the 3 voltage regulator chips for the master GPU are dead, putting the remaining current through the last VRM. Sensors easily triple (or higher) the estimated current while idling and under load*. Putting a significant 3d or mining load on it at stock clocks and volts instantly freezes the computer. I was able to get the card to run furmark in full screen with 0.875 volts and 425MHz core and 1000MHz memory with no artifacting or crashes (I verify both cores were loaded by monitoring the amps of each core). It also mined at 0.85v 485MHz core on the master and 1v 865MHz on the slave. I tried baking this in the oven at 425F for 12 minutes, didn't fix it.

(4) Sapphire 5850's you might want. All will boot, run windows, even overclock, just choke at varying points if you try to mine with them.

^ Thanks for posting. Those cards are a bit old. I doubt I'd give you enough to do much more than cover shipping.
Bump.

5870 that locks after a few hours of mining. Display seems alright. Could probably be fixed by firmware or replaced VRM.

Hio I know someone that has a Gigabyte GTX 560ti 448 core, that will not post on two different rigs. I thought about checking or flashing the bios but shut the pc down after windows became laggy with the 560ti/ headless, in the 2nd slot. What do you think ? HT xD

2 x 5970, both can't remain stable mining on both cores. One of them, 1 core crashes in 10 minutes. The other can mine for days, but eventually will crash.
