GPU and CPU

So ive had enough of antminers, and am going to build myself a GPU rig.

However is it worth getting a decent motherboard with a quad core CPU and have it doing both CPU, and GPU mining or am I talking bollocks and it wont work ?

Any advice, experiences would be great to hear about.

Good question, at the moment I have my CPU's on my computer playing around with X11 my GPU is some shity nvidea card that dont do shit, so is not doing anything.

I was hoping to maybe mine X11 with my CPU's and Scrypt with the GPU's on my new setup, but dont want to get a fantastic motherboard if i cant use the CPU's whilst GPU mining.

But im new to this type of algo's ive all ways been an SHA256d guy

With the rise of scrypt ASIC devices, scrypt on a GPU is all but pointless.

Crypto notes seem like the best option for GPU at the moment. I have just posted a question asking about profitability myself, so I may not be the best person to ask.

Do some ROI math unless you just are wanting to do it for fun.  But GPU rigs no longer are profitable to make.   Add up 6 GPU's and chances of paying them off anymore even with free electricity is almost zero chance.

I do miss GPU days, but they are no longer here.

Well they are coders : they have tweaked theirs miners which are more efficient than public ones, so they can ROI. But the golden age of gpu mining is probably over.
With some luck and wisdom, you can still ROI : I have mined vanillacoin as soon as gpu miners for nividia was released and I made some nice profits ( I didn't sold my vanillacoin, since I believe It can increase a lot again). I have made some little profits with geocoin too. But I loose with spreadcoin ( not selling at the right time).

To sum up, you can ROI but this is not easy. Better to buy gpu at discount or usaged.
Above all, it should be fun for you otherwise don't bother.

Those coders are not supported fully by the public, so they have to sell privately. The community as a whole suffers as somebody can dump efficiently mined coins.

Theses developpers have delivered a lot for free : but almost no donations from people using their soft. I can understand they tried to make some profit selling  private miners.

So the OP wants to know if he can build a rig and mine both cpu and gpu from the same mother board... I dont see why not it seems plausible to me.

And when the rest of you are on about private miners, do you mean software, or private pools ?

If you mean software, then what is wrong with the available stuff such as cudu and cgminer ?

Nope!  For GPU mining your best path is to get the most energy-efficient GPU you can, used if possible, and slap it on the cheapest piece of shit motherboard you can find.  I've got two 2.2 Ghz P4's actually nailed to the wall downstairs.  Under $15 each. 40G hd's, 1G ram.  The two 6950's that they're running don't know the difference, or if they do, they don't seem to care.  Invest the difference in Gelid coolers, you WILL need them and they'll increase your performance while saving your hardware (resale value!).  These do just fine, even on 7950's.

The best power/performance ratio for CPU is still the FX-8350.  You will pay double for 20% more performance with Intel.  With good cooling, still under $100 (or half the price of the chip), you can match any 4-core I7.  9370's and 9390's are just binned 8350's, tested to run at higher clock.  That benchmark by the way is my own 8350 at 5.25 Ghz.

We ran our Rigs originally (280x/270x Rigs) with i7-4770k chips.

They worked great. So we were mining two coins, an X11/13/15 on GPU and a CPU coin like HVC/MMC/Prime on the CPU.

GPU and CPU can be work out well. It all depends upon your need.
