Seriously. The less said to border agents the better. Why would anyone bring up their btc worth is beyond me? Probably get flagged as a "person of interest" and hassled every time you cross the border. It would really be dumb to have a wallet on board showing a large amount of btc when you know they can search your devices and ask for passwords.

Yes I agree, but that speaks to reality rather than the imagined society where we have a social contract that we comply with in which we have only advantage to gain by being completely honest and forthcoming with our authorities. Of course the reality is that you say as little as possible and the more time you spend around the police, the more likely it is you'll die. Anyone not retarded and without the inclination to lie to themselves knows this.

I wouldn't bring up my BTC, but we now exist in a time where arbitrary lines drawn in our ethical codes are no longer relevant:

i.e

  • combustion, cooking recipes, jokes? un-copyright-able - share away! Above board, everything is fine.
  • sharing protected ones and zeros? how dare you! artists deserve to get paid for their work!
  • transferring/carrying cash under an arbitrary amount? no problemo!
  • exceed that amount? We're gonna need to know what you're up to!

Society doesn't scale.

No matter our belief, no matter how docile or an anarchist we could be, facing the authority, I have a feeling the general message is: keep your mouth shut if the subject of Bitcoin wasn't pushed.

You're missing my point entirely, in cryptocurrencies it's all wallet to wallet, transferring Bitcoins is no big deal and already it's being used for remittance because you can avoid the banking system, I know all about capital flight and that's why I'm saying I want to see what they're going to do about people transferring money between computers as opposed to anything to do with the banking system or exchanges.

They can do absolutely nothing about it. They can only prevent people from buying / selling bitcoins at exchanges. They can only hinder adoption of Bitcoin; they can't really restrict its uses / transfer.

It's just like a credit card! Some cards have a withdrawal limit upwards of $10,000. Only cash is regulated.

Exactly. Knowledge of a private key is comparable to knowledge of a PIN for a card.

As a general rule, saying anything about Bitcoin to any government or financial institution isn't wise.   Governments hate it, banks hate it, credit card companies hate it.     It's one of those things that is better to leave unsaid IMHO.

Some countries have capital controls.
You can't send more than __$ outside the country.
Let them try stopping bitcoins.  Tongue

True. But sooner or later authorities will take some measures so that they can monitor or regulate Bitcoin as well.
