Dear All,

A couple days ago i had around 2000 something bitcoins on my Bitcoin QT mac wallet. With something 7-10 addresses.

I wanted a fresh install, so I backed up my wallet on several locations (wallet.dat) and restored it on my new install. Now i've got the entire blockchain downloaded, and there's only one of my addresses with labels i created in the wallet, and i've got literally 1 btc on it.

Yet, I've still got the entire backup of the mac on a timemachine on my external HDD, yet you cant just open that bitcoin-qt app from the timemachine backup.

Is there any way to extract the data from it? Couldnt find anything in Applications Support/Bitcoins either, I also tried syncing the wallet.dat backup i made, with a windows PC and tried some other stuff before I came here.

10 BTC tip who posts the successful solution! Smiley

by the way, I can just connect to my backup as a server and then go through all the files with Finder.

Do a rescan.
Start it from the command line with the -rescan option.
Also, make sure you have your most recent wallet.dat on the data folder. Couldn't it be the case that you copied an older backup of the wallet.dat?

If all fails here's a bootstrap procedure:

1) extract private keys with:
https://github.com/jackjack-jj/pywallet

2) import private keys on:
https://blockchain.info

3) setup a new client on your mac

4) transfer all coins from your blockchain.info wallet to a fresh address on your new client

good luck!

It may be the case that I backed up my wallet, then added other addresses. Would that mean im fucked?

Guess that it doesnt matter! The thing is, just took over 30 hours to sync the chain! Thank the holy lord.

This is exactly why i cant choose between offline and online storage... heh.

Does your last post mean you could recover the total amount?
