Jesus, 229! I bet I couldn't name 229 legitimate Bitcoin businesses. With a history like bitcoin has it's a wonder anyone uses it at all.
Everyone says that fiat has a lot of theft and crime too, bla bla bla. Duh, of course it does. It's been used by everyone in the world for hundreds of years. Bitcoin is six years old and has a little over a million users and it rivals any major theft in fiats history.
A lot of this is because of the unregulated nature of the Bitcoin economy. With (mostly) no consumer protection along with no laws regulating the standards of safety for exchanges and business security, there is a severe chance that there can be major heists, and we see this playing out in the market with many high-profile robberies, as you stated.
I'm far from agreeing with the point that it's a wonder anyone uses Bitcoin. There's a number of reasons.
