FYI to everyone in this thread, I was so happy to "win" my bitcointalk ad, I didn't check the username close enough before getting scammed for 3.6 btc: Thank you for your recent bid to advertise on Bitcointalk, Round 148 https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1011790.02 @ 1.8
I am pleased to advise you that your bid has been successful for 1 X advertising slots on Bitcointalk. Total due : 3.6 BTCPayment address : 1MxUUsWjqCAE169sA1e8ZoqNXV4JvVcBmG In line with auction rules can you please ensure funds are sent within 24 hours of notification - You must pay for your slots within 24 hours of receiving the payment address. Otherwise your slots may be sold to someone else, and I might even give you a negative trust rating. I will send you the payment information via forum PM from this account
After funds have been transfered please inform me of the transaction I.D, after funds have been confirmed you will then be forwarded a link and password to access the information required for your advertisment to go live. Should you require any additional support then please feel free to contact me directly. Thanks Theymos, can we get a ban on this guy? Theymfos ? To protect others in the future? 100% on me for this one, I'm an idiot, should have read closer, but it's a creative vector IMO should be closed. Directly taxing those that are buying ads here...

Total due : 3.6 BTCPayment address : 1MxUUsWjqCAE169sA1e8ZoqNXV4JvVcBmG You bid on 2 slots, you were asked to pay for 2 slots, yet you were told that you won 1 slot. I would hope that this fact alone would have set off some kind of a red flag. I think a way that these kinds of scams can be prevented in the future is to announce the payment addresses publicly on this thread and

Doubt people will bother to check. Addresses are just random to most people. What they really need to check is who they're actually sending money to, but no amount of precautions put in place wont stop some people from getting scammed.

The person in question had at least attempted to advertise on the forum before (I don't think he won), so in theory he would have previously seen theymos publicly providing the payment addresses and when this didn't happen when he "won" he should have noticed that something was 'off'

So many possible solutions to prevent all this trouble yet nothing happens, no one takes action. Hell, the text warning of impersonators is barely noticeable in the OP,

Sorry for your loss. To hopefully make future cases of this sort of thing more difficult, I added a warning to all PMs by newbies.
