In the meantime, can someone explain how to install this on Windows without any compilation, and without downloading a ton of 3rd parties like freaking visual studio ?

it is all java, if they just export as a runnable jar you would be able to double click on the jar file and run it. All dependencies are in the jar file making it self contained.

Maybe I'm missing something.

First I followed the OT installation instructions, but now I understand this is for the OT server ... not what I want right now.

Today I downloaded this jar, ran it, but was unable to actually make it work. I haven't tried watching any of the video tutorials ... perhaps what I see is out there already.

How do I:

1. Download the correct MoneyChanger binary/jar for Windows
2. Create a wallet
3. Find & connect to an OT server and start trading?

Is there a list of OT servers anywhere? I thought it was just markm's server and random test servers.

I will get a server set up eventually. theres a server waiting just for this. really need to get my finger out.

Hey, I'm the guy making the current windows builds.
The rational of the current builds is that I’m including the full debugging symbols, and linking against the development version of the libraries.

This will make finding bugs on windows far easier.  However in the future I will put more effort into making ‘release’ windows builds.

I can foresee at least 4 dependencies for the medium term, even with ‘release’ mode:
1.   MSVC 2008  (for OpenSSL)
2.   OpenSSL
3.   MSVC2010 SP1  (for Open Transactions)
4.   Java (for Moneychanger)

Of-course it should be possible to automate the install of the above mentioned dependencies, however this is not my development focus at the moment.

It would be great for another developer to offer their time and experience to build such an install system.  Else, I will get around to it, and just let people ‘suck it up’ with my debugging builds.

Perhaps ... but I am a Windows users, and haven't been able to find the time to properly install MoneyChanger myself so far, so I can't be a part of that yet. I contacted fellowtraveller, the author of OT, 2 weeks ago asking for advice on what to do with the funds, and got no reply.

I'm considering adding this bounty to another old bounty I'm managing and redistributing now. Let me know if you have any other suggestions or comments.

They were originally geared towards creating a Windows Installer for OT/moneychanger.
Nobody claimed the bounty, and the coins have been sitting there in a wallet (I have access to).
Any thoughts on where the bounty should go?

I found this thread from 2014 about a Windows installer (obsolete by now).

He's currently coding full native blockchain support into OT itself. Here's his commit history:

When the latest wallet is released, there will be a Windows installer for it, since the new UI is all based on Qt. OT now also has UI classes with native Qt support.

Mind if I (or you) post this on the bounty thread, for sake of transparency?
Can you are I contact him and verify publicly that he owns this address?
One reasonable way would be to create a repo or commit with a statement that he owns this address.

FYI the new wallet won't be Moneychanger, but it is a new OT wallet, based on Qt, and multiplatform. We will deploy on Windows, Mac, Linux, Android.

I contacted Justus so you should be hearing from him directly. He will provide you whatever proof you need.

And yes, I think it's fine to post this on the bounty thread. And Justus definitely deserves some reward for all the hard work he's been doing on this new wallet.
