The Bitcoin network protocol was designed to be extremely flexible. It can be used to create timed transactions, escrow transactions, multi-signature transactions, etc. The current features of the client only hint at what will be possible in the future.

Although I sympathize with their frustration, I suspect that only one particular exchange is the cause of that frustration.  It's a bit heavy-handed to paint all exchanges with the same brush.

Good initiative, but you could elaborate and link to some more info, this looks like a hack..

Sorry, I can't help you with your lost password.

wait... what was that?

hack.. or siteowner's hissy fit ?...  either way it's a blight on the reputation of the site.

Seems to be back up, but it's a good reminder that we need alternatives for every service in the bitcoin ecosystem.

I am building a site comparable to bitcoincharts and first wanted to use their API. Now however, I will be using each exchanges individual API. In the long term I am thinking about creating a bitcoincharts like API.

Looking forward to seeing it!  Yeah - using their API seems like a recipe for flakiness. Keep it as independent as possible.

It's not a hack, the site owner was just in #bitcoin-otc explaining how he's annoyed with a certain exchange.
