Last week two prominent Ukrainian opposition figures were gunned down in broad daylight. They join as many as ten others who have been killed or committed suicide under suspicious circumstances just this year. These individuals have one important thing in common: they were either part of or friendly with the Yanukovych government, which a US-backed coup overthrew last year. They include members of the Ukrainian parliament and former chief editors of major opposition newspapers.

While some journalists here in the US have started to notice the strange series of opposition killings in Ukraine, the US government has yet to say a word.

Compare this to the US reaction when a single opposition figure was killed in Russia earlier this year. Boris Nemtsov was a member of a minor political party that was not even represented in the Russian parliament. Nevertheless the US government immediately demanded that Russia conduct a thorough investigation of his murder, suggesting the killers had a political motive.

As news of the Russian killing broke, Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee Ed Royce (R-CA) did not wait for evidence to blame the killing on Russian president Vladimir Putin. On the very day of Nemtsov’s murder, Royce told the US media that, “this shocking murder is the latest assault on those who dare to oppose the Putin regime.”

Neither Royce, nor Secretary of State John Kerry, nor President Obama, nor any US government figure has said a word about the series of apparently political murders in Ukraine.

On the contrary, instead of questioning the state of democracy in what looks like a lawless Ukraine, the Administration is sending in the US military to help train Ukrainian troops!

Well, according to the common central European country-lore ukrainian males are gangsters or smugglers and their women are prostitutes (see "Natasha trade"). Certainly this is a quite rough exaggeration but certainly true for their politicians (at least the gangster part), and they are doing their best to strengthen this image.

As far as I know not this is the first time when the US supporting mass murderers, dictators and war criminals.

I don't really see where the plastic surgey is there, maybe a bit of make up and a better nights sleep, but the features look pretty much the same.

It is pretty crazy that the old government is being assassinated.  Ukraine seems to want to take the moral high ground in this conflict, and that is how they ware portraiyed in the news here, but they are shelling their own citizens and killing off the former government.  I really dislike the new government, they look like a bunch of thugs and they are always asking for help to further their war in east Ukraine by trying to get the west involved even more.  The rebels look like thugs too, but they are unofficial people, not an official government.

It was a question, not a claim, but if it makes you feel better that I'm somehow "wrong" then that's OK too.

How well is Hungary recovering after the years of Soviet plundering? Are they doing extremely well, like Poland for instance, which is secretly kind-of booming with all the capitalism and EU funds, or are they struggling because they're stuck in the past?

As we got a new wave of plunderers, in this case from the west and the south east, plus we have our own gangster/politician elite from the same stock as Porky and Rats not very well, indeed.

BTW if Poland turned turned to the land of honey and milk, could you explain me please why most of my neighbours and friends here in the UK are poles Smiley? ...and why they are telling more or less the opposite of what you said? (FYI the Czech Republic or Slovenia would be a better example for a more successful transition.)

Here is the proof for the "moral high ground" taken by the Kiev junta:

1. Banning a language which is used by 80% of the population as home language
2. Banning the most popular TV channels and other media outlets
3. Killing around 6,000 of its own civilians in artillery campaigns, just because they are mostly Russian-speaking
4. Forcibly recruiting tens of thousands of its own citizens and sending them to killing zones of the East without any weapons or training.
5. Murdering the opposition politicians in broad daylight.

There's a JUNTA?! And they've banned Rusky?

Definition of Junta for you: A junta or military junta (/ˈhʊntə/ or /ˈdʒʌntə/) is a government led by a committee of military leaders. The term derives from the Spanish word junta, meaning committee or meeting; specifically a board of directors.

It is exactly what the government headed by Porky is. A democratically elected government was toppled with the help of organized criminals, and an oligarch was installed as the head of the state. And then he organizes a rigged election (in which only one-third of the total population in the East and South votes), and claims that he is "democratically" elected.
