I'm afraid that this facts are correct.
In my country, probably most people will give last answer: What's bitcoin.
For average people bitcoin is very risky, virtual thing, without future, if they even know something about BTC.
If will be great if paypal or some other ''big name'' accept bitcoin but it seems we are very fare from it.

Most people = the 1% that knows what Bitcoin is (and the 0.00001% that voted on that geek ass website).

That's what I'm asking about.  These "geeks" are also well informed.  They spend most of their time online doing some reading and research, and yet they think little of Bitcoin like they are informed but not impressed.

The NSA-answer is just the best answer, if you have no idea, what the price will be.
I most probably would also have chosen it.

To be fair it is a terrible poll and few hundred are probably troll votes NSA honey pot  Grin Thought this had been buried but obviously not. Like the post above says there is not really anything anyone can vote unless they have an idea of the price.

It just shows how few people have used bitcoin, if people used it then they wouldn't think it would be worth less in value in a year since it is so damn useful.

It is not about those few votes who think it will be worth less in future, it is about the nsa answer which is not how most think about bitcoin just some trolls and some people who have little else to vote for.

People who want to believe in some grand conspiracy will find it in everything they see. Every world event, every system they don't understand, every one they don't know. Let them think what they will. Our edge is knowledge and while they daydream we grow.

I think the majority of voters might be people who have no knowledge of what Bitcoin is, nowadays many of the people reading mainstream newspapers and participating in such votings have no first hand experience of what bitcoin is?

The NSA would be stupid to create a HoneyPot in a Open source environment.  Grin They already have HUGE amounts of information through backdoors in SSL and RSA encryption.

Every email, SMS, phone call you make are being recorded and all your activity on forums and Social media are scrutinized by them.

They are acctually looking at ways to do this, without having to divulge in courts, how they did it... There are groups of people, who are challenging this in courts.

A Open source program is not a way to do it... they would most likely still work with Hacker Team to create more proprietary methods to do this.

This is public knowledge... {Youtube}  Wink

They're utterly, utterly stupid, the fact is the people haven't even glanced at Bitcoin properly and are just making up their own bullshit, we all know it's open source and anyone can look into the code so this assertion makes absolutely no sense. Before I used to feel like we should argue with these assholes but now they're just annoying because they're like others who simply refuse to take a proper look at it and investigate how it works so they just make it up.

The 11% who asked "What is Bitcoin?" are far more honest with themselves and are the people we should be spending time on.

While I agree with the assertion regarding Bitcoin's open source nature, theoretically the original creation of Bitcoin could have been a move to find all of the people with anti-government sentiment/criminal activity (as it seems to be a logical candidate for criminal payment) by another government entity. This is really kind of tin foil hat level (so I don't really believe it), but we can't know for sure if Bitcoin and its movement and transactions aren't being monitored on a regular basis.

Oh they most certainly are going to monitor the stuff that interests them, that's what intelligent agencies do, but to think that they can actually control an open source technology is a new level of stupidity for me, people like this really piss me off because they seem to take pride in being this moronic.

To me it's the equivalent of saying "I have a stupid an uninformed opinion and you're not allowed to argue with it because it's MY opinion and I'm going to run around screaming it at everybody as loud as possible even if I've completeley made everything up" they're spreading this bullshit to people who don't know any better and Mike Maloney got taken in by it a bit as well but luckily he's intelligent so he went off and did his own research on Bitcoin.

My favourite one is that douchebag who made a video on youtube just to say I don't know anything about Bitcoin and like any good American I don't trust what I don't understand.

In general people are just not familiar with history of bitcoin, protocols, algorithms and other technical stuff bitcoin is based on. Secret of Satoshi origin and identity is just too enticing for people to pass on, of course they will be creating theories that he is lead scientist in NSA team or something like that. They may be right, but for general purposes spreading news like that is harmful for btc imo.

I'm sure the poll was trolled or was just voted on by paranoid idiots. I think it's safe to say most people will not believe it to be an NSA invention but I'm sure many people see it as a currency for criminals unfortunately (which we know is not the case).

That most definitely is just a "funny" and "edgy" response of the people. I mean it would be really really quite some revelation if it really was started by the NSA... Just imagine! Nah, I don't see any solid reason why this should be true, either - they wouldn't benefit from that a lot (if at all)!
