The next thing I am doing in BC land is moving my wallet and client in a more secure environment. So I donwloaded bitsafe, and ran it from a usb stick. I connected it via ethernet which is connected to a open-wrt router with vpnclient running. First thing bitsafe is asking after startup is if I want to download the blockchain, which I accept. It takes two hours. I did this a few times, but after the download is completely finished (I see huge dat-files in /storage/bitcoins) I get consistently this message "signature verification failed! This means that your downloaded file is invalid: the signing key changed or your internet connection is being filtered or altered by someone or something. Please try again in a couple of minutes". Sounds frightening, anybody any idea what is going on?

Any chance you use Virgin Media? Their connection is corrupted, so you will receive this message. If so - wait for it to be fixed Sad

Thanks for replying. I don't know what you mean with 'Virgin Media', but if it is an isp the answer is 'no'. But does your answer imply that the message is caused by a corrupted connection on my part? As I am using a vpn between my isp and the blockchain, does this mean the connection via this vpn provider is corrupted ? What does 'corrupted' mean ? How can I test this ?

[update]After I became unlocked from the newbie forum I made a posting in the proper thread:
