Once a transaction has 6 confirmations, it is extremely unlikely that an attacker without at least 50% of the network's computation power would be able to reverse it.

There are no blogs that I know of, but the build-unix.md file provides instructions for linux building. It is in the doc folder here https://github.com/bitcoin/bitcoin/blob/master/doc/build-unix.md

You've been linked to the code and the compiling documents, but I also suggest you read the bitcoin.org article on running a full node.

Also, unless you're planning to compile and build the latest bleeding edge, you'll want to get the code from the latest release branch instead of from the main: https://github.com/bitcoin/bitcoin/releases/tag/v0.10.0.  If you want to help test the latest release candidate: https://github.com/bitcoin/bitcoin/releases/tag/v0.10.1rc3

Jonny's Pool - Mine with us and help us grow!  Support a pool that supports Bitcoin, not a hardware manufacturer's pockets!  No SPV cheats.  No empty blocks.
