I see random articles on bitcoin poping up on mainstream media lately, making random claims, such as "it's money created on the internet", like they don't know there is a limited supply or something.

This is total FUD... people make up conspiracy theory's when they do not have any facts.

If you look at this in this way : A group of companies or a government wanting control, would not create something in Open source.

1. It gives them less control. {People can actually change the code or accept a totally new version}
2. It's too transparent. { They would need to hide backdoors etc... and Open Source does not provide for that }
3. It must be proprietary and they should be the only entity calling the shots.

My guess... It was a small group of programmers {no more than 3} who got together on online forums and chat rooms and they created it from there. They got spooked, when it took off, and also when Gavin went to the authorities.

Large organizations cannot keep secrets.. there are too many holes.

I can't believe someone actually make this type of comment. Well, Satoshi Nakamoto is a common name in Japan..

Really?

Seems like Bitcoin is making it to papers across the world.
Soon, they will figure out what Bitcoin really is.  Smiley

This kind of publicity is certainly not going to help the new users who look up to this kind of false information. Misinformation could lead to the next GOX incident.

A spanish friend told me that a politician in his country said that the money is created indefinitelly and unregulated, as if there is a random group of people doing QE with Bitcoins. They just don't get it.

I did this same search around 2 years ago and our Satoshi wasn't the only one listed. Perhaps all the hype around Bitcoin and the newseek article have affected the search rankings. A similar search on Facebook turns up quite a lot of results.

Bitcoin is a confusing concept for many people which leads to misinformation. I even thought I understood it for a while when I didnt, and undoubtedly I spread some misinformation...

Funny how this kind of information about the origins of the pseudonym Satoshi Nakamoto still cracks me up. Smiley The names could perfectly fit, but it is very contradicting if those powers really want authority and control because firstly, why would they leave it as an open-source project if they want total control? Like seriously, if someone wants total control, he/she would definitely leave the source among his/her inner circles only and not for the public to view.

Yeah they could have kept it to themselves but that's just about it.
It would have been only themselves because nobody would trust it.
Hence the need for open source  Wink

I think we need to weave "time travelers" into the narrative. That's another funny internet phenomena. Maybe we can't find Satoshi because he has not been born yet!!!!!! Or he was a mathematically gifted daimyo in feudal Japan!!!

I think both Satoshi and Nakamoto are common names in Japan. But you may find more hits under "Sato", a short version. I spent time in 08-09 in Japan and learned a bit about the language. I may be wrong, but let me take a stab at this name.

聡 中本
The first name "聡" means something like wisdom. Like the word Sophia in Greek. The surname "中本" is made from two characters. The first one is ment to show a line going inside of a mouth. It is used to imply "inside of". The second character is a tree that has it's roots emphasized. It implies roots or the origin of something. It is also in the word for Japan (日本). See it at the end? Here it is combined with the character for the sun. So Japan means "the origin of the Sun", or the land of the rising sun.
So Satoshi Nakamoto could be interpreted to mean "Wisdom from within the roots" or maybe "wisdom originating from within". Its difficult because, unlike alphabetical languages, one must glean the meaning from what is implied rather than spelled out.

I dunno why people are so hell bent on proving Bitcoin as a fraudulent currency and supply derogatory misinformation about it. This kind of negative publicity shouldn't be created without hard evidences and proper knowledge about cryptocurrencies... These kind of reports claiming Bitcoin is created to sabotage other global currencies by popular sources of media only calls for their criticism and boycott.

New users and people need to be taught about the meaning, use and benefits of Bitcoin instead of making false allegations as to who created it and why...

well i believe that many of us have their own opinion and we should respect what we believe in

only if those opinions are based on some well established or fundamental data and facts which make them believable... for example people may believe in Gods but thinking that bitcoin or Satoshi Nakamoto is an anagram used by CIA is just off limits...
