hello,

so obv its better to underclock this with 1 psu at 1ths....

does it matter where i plug the two pci cables into? Should i use four pci cables off the single psu?Huh

i am using corsair 750cx. I was running two of them but had another psu fail on my s3 have to pull one of them to run thouse and sun my sp30 off of 1 psu..

so please lmk if i should just run two pci cables into a specific board etc or run 4 of them into all four plugs. Thanks!

I think you would be better off going with a bigger power supply.   I personally have not read anyone with a SP30 using anything this low.

It comes with a pretty nice server PSU that I'm guessing must be broken in your case.  You are right it might work on a underclock, but I would wait and see if anyone has went this low on SP30 pipes in.

you can do it but all 4 jacks must have power to hash.

clock low down to 1100gh  set the watts to:

 160
160
160
160

try
 0.619
0.619
0.619
0.619

max volts
 0.625

reboot
800

come back and post your numbers so I can tell if you went low as you should

You will need to underclock it quite a bit.  A sp20 makes a lot more sense Smiley.   Mine run about 640 at the wall.

Does you PSU have 4 PCIe cables?

If you're in the USA and are interested in a server class 1100w 80+ platinum PSU that will run on 120v or 240v for a good price shoot me a PM.  That 750w is going to be underpowered for the SP20.

yes has 4 pci cables

@dude that gave me the settings (cant see ur name while i type) my dad was trying to help me tonight bcs i am off site...

anyway he said when he plugged all 4 pci in from the one pci the sp20 would run for a few seconds then the psu would shut down.....

im guessing i will have to plug them both back in adjust the settings as you stated (downclock) and then unplug the 2nd psu and proceed with the single psu. Will this keep the device correct? Is this why the psu is shutting down automatically?

Thanks  Grin

I would think you could get a 750 to work if you underclock.  I personally am pulling like 630 watts at the wall with my underclocked SP20's.

I personally have all 4 plugged in on my 2 SP20's.   With it run for a few seconds makes me wonder if you have it set on to high of speed for your PSU.

You might unhook internet temporarly so it can not get work from pool, then log into the SP20 and apply the underclock.  After getting the underclock see if it still is doing the shutdown or if it works.   (Turning back on Internet after underclock is in effect)

Yeah, but you're leaving a lot of GH on the table doing that.  Also, if it ramps up the power draw for whatever reason the PSU can't take it.  Also, if he doesn't have a power meter to see what it's actually pulling from the wall, he's just guessing as to whether he's running his PSU at the very edge of what it can handle or within a safe margin.

Not saying it's impossible, but it's not ideal, for sure.

The reason of doing it is electricity efficiency.  The SP20 does amazing at it's efficiency at lower clocked speeds.

Not in all cases, but in many your better off running a underclock and getting the best efficiency.

Yes, but if you're talking efficiency...my 94% Platinum PSUs will pull 10-12% less power from the wall than the Bronze CX at the same hashrate Wink

I'm not debating the merit's of the PSU.  The one he mentions is a lower priced PSU.  Personally I think the lowest I have in use right now is gold rated.

But SP20s power efficiency is better at a underclock I don't think you will debate  this.

I answered your pm try the suggestions I gave.

As to what psu plat are best it you have them.

He will use 25 to 45 extra watts with his psu at a 640 watt setting maybe 50 extra watts.

So  50 watts x 24 = 1200 watts or 1.2 kwatts a day  at 10 cents a kwatt he will spend 12 cents a day more or 3.60 a month more .  So if he can get a decent plat for 100 bucks.  I once got a seasonic 750 watt plat for 80 bucks   it takes 22- 23 months  to pay off the purchase.

If he pays 15 cents  a kwatt 14 to 15 months  BTW if he pays 15 cents a kwatt it is really hard to turn a profit mining.

Not much gear right now  S-5's are costly  340 + 43 to ship = 383

then you need deal with the loud fans. all told close to a 400 dollar item.

Or the avalon 4.1 super quiet runs really well clocked in the 800 to 940gh area, but very costly.

2.61 btc shipped to usa  for one

The avalon 4.1 is pretty amazing on its almost silent sound.   I could not believe it when I put one in my bedroom and could not hear it over outside noise, or projector.

It defintally has it's pro's and cons.  Pro it underclock's great with very small amount of sound output.   Con is it's price, it is a premium currently compared to miners such as S3.
