I see so many faucets around. Do the operators profit from it?

I guess... otherwise they won't be around...
However they often get empty or exhausted... sometimes they take long time for paying out too...

Well if they didn't what would be the point? They make money on ads but most of them probably don't make much.

As a user it's not that profitable. but depends on where you life I guess. If you're doing it right (see bitcoinaliens) you make a lot of money with free products.

lol...I won't think they are profitable...I mean if we serf 30-50faucets then maybe we will get 1$

if you open a faucet then you should add the gambling scrypt on it to have profit

I'm not sure what the angle is on so many faucets springing up.  It used to be hard for faucet operators to make much because google would not allow their ads on faucet sites.  However, freebitco.in seems to have over come that and has been in business with fairly stable payouts in USD terms for quite awhile now.  So maybe others have found the same loophole.

As others have pointed out, the faucets give out very little, and there are scripts to minimize the up front programming work, so if you have minimal hosting and domain costs maybe it works out.

Not always. For example, FreeDogeco.in owner said here that he has stopped promoting it as he is ultimately losing...

I get many requests to make altcoin faucets but the dogecoin faucet that we have has been operating at a loss for a while. Click through rates for ads on it are half of the bitcoin faucet, people don't gamble much and most withdraw immediately after each free roll. The loss isn't too much though so I plan to keep it running for as long as I can, but I have stopped actively promoting it and it has put me off from making any more altcoin faucets.

www.LuckyBitFaucet.com doesn't make a profit. We are using it to let people play a game with the www.LuckyB.it feel for free (and give them some funds to try the real deal). I guess we could make make a nice profit from it if you allow advertising. We've had 4,200,000 page views in less than 4 months time so that might attract some big advertisers.

It depend how much do you fund your faucet, how much did you spend on marketing , how much the prize per claim , etc
Then  make a good design and stable payout, I'm sure more visitor will come. More visitor more profit  Cool

Since luckybit already known, I think luckybit faucet will get profit because that 4,200,000 Shocked
