It is a common myth that Bitcoin is ruled by a majority of miners. This is not true. Bitcoin miners "vote" on the ordering of transactions, but that's all they do. They can't vote to change the network rules.

i think back then he paid so much because the price of bitcoin was much lower. though correct me if im wrong

In 2011 the price was sub $10 usd per btc so maybe he didnt get ripped off
