Why do people in the altcoin community take their investments so personally? If someone goes to the ANN thread of almost any coin and asks an honest question that may not make the coin look good, people become hostile. If they go to that thread and express an opposing opinion, they are treated like the Devil himself.

I've never seen such nonsense with any other investment. Most GM stock holders couldn't care less whether I like GM or not. So why are so many altcoin investors so childlike in that regard? What do you think?

I think there are a lot of children roaming around these parts.

Yes.  Big burly libertarian white bros children.

To be honest sometimes I really have the impression that MicroGuy is actually right, and we have big bunch of 14-16 yo guys around here Smiley. Nothing wrong with that, one can not start discovering emerging technologies early enough, but sometimes this can cause issues... Smiley

That's probably true. I'm sure that there are a large number of 14 to 16 year old guys around here. That would explain a lot.

Because most alts are shitcoins where the developer is trying to get their BTC off their wallets, so if you criticize their scam you'll probably get your post removed (they always self moderate the threads).

I don't think this behavior is childish, its more like a warlike state. Because people feel themselves directly implicated in the fate of the coin, they must actively defend it against FUD to defend their own wealth...

If that were true, then you would see the same phenomenon with other investments. No. This childlike behavior seems to be unique to crypto.

Yeah.  I wonder why this is.  And you'll be surprised some of these people are in their 40's with a family and are actually nice in real life.  But on here they act... funny.  Try fudding the XMR speculation thread, you'll see what I mean.

If you are over 40 and doing crypto and are trying to make lots of money, you need to re-examine your goals in life.

Once someone buys a shitcoin they are emotionally invested. They bought the coin with dreams of riches. Anyone imposing on their dream is the enemy. It doesn't matter how scammy the coin is. It's pretty funny actually.

Is there a sphere of other investment where the markets are so small they can be moved by almost anyone? Its defensive not childish, at least I hope children don't behave like that...

Yes. Small Cap Penny Stocks. Besides, there are very few people around here who can affect the value of a coin that much. A large buy or sell may affect the price for a few minutes, but that's usually all.

Besides, anybody who feels that strongly that they have to defend their investment is letting fear, not reason, guide them and are their own worst enemy.

Sure, but unreasonableness isn't that rare, or unique to crypto. Perhaps there is more of it, as crypto is a known unknown phenomenon, its where we see how little we still know of economy..

I think that on some level most fanboys know that their coin is garbage and are afraid that you will reveal the fact to the world.

shitcoin and scam developers (and whales/manipulators to a degree) have fucked the market and everyone is on edge...given it's people's hard earned money, of course they're going to get angry and be on edge.  this crypto world is still very immature both in terms of people and the market/scene/tech as a whole.

if you're going to risk BTC in a short term P&D then sure, make sure you can afford to lose it if you don't exit in time.  otherwise, STOP BUYING SHIT SCAM COINS and put your btc into worthwhile / longer term coins for great returns later on.

You guys should Google search for some people who were involved in Pyramid schemes..
I read some testimonials a while back on some and it shows the mentality and tactics etc.
This Altcoin crap is pretty much 90% all Ponzi Schemes / Digital Ponzi schemes and it entails all that comes with classic ones.
Like people get suckered into it and then they are stuck trying to fuck over others to try and get out with out going broke etc.
hence the deceit all around and lying, back stabbing and a whole lot of online bullying and harassment.

This Scene turned vulgar after BTC/LTC and I have been more and more embarrassed and ashamed to admit I have been involved with this over time.
I'm not telling anyone to come here and buy Ponzi-altcoins that is for damn sure.. not even my worst enemy LOL

I wouldn't call altcoins a ponzi scheme or a pyramid scheme because it doesn't fit the definition. There are some similarities though. The biggest similarity is that they both are trying to sell something that has no real value in order to recoup their investment.

Then they run around trying to push it on everyone else so they get their couple of cent price increase and when it comes they bail, this is ponzi written all over it. All of crypto is the sooner you realize the less you give a crap about it or the bullies and little kiddies that have filled the scene.

Do you even know what a ponzi is?  http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ponzi_scheme

Actually it's an Internet thing and has been going on in stock forums such as the Silicon Investor for years. There is a book called Scam Dogs and Mo-Mo Mamas that I think you wound find very interesting. while reading the book, just replace the word "stocks" with "altcoins" or "Bitcoin" and you could swear that it was written about this place.
