Bitcoin's Birth Certificate below... Bitcoin is only 6 years old and counting, still got a lifetime ahead of itself.

Yup, January 3rd is commonly celebrated in the Bitcoin "community". There's also a Bitcoin "Black Friday" where retailers offer special discounts and offers when customers pay using Bitcoin. Back in 2013 that Friday was a huge success, partly because the November bubble was in full bloom then. Good times.

I should have gotten into Bitcoin back in 1992...

the commuity is celebrating bitcoins birthday every year we can probably hold more events and do some campaigns at this day to increase the masses' awareness to bitcoin! Bitcoin's ecosystem is improving. We need to bring more adopters to it!

The 3rd of January 2009 (03/01/2009) or (01/03/2009) was when the genesis block was mined. It would be cool to remember that day as Bitcoin day but we can't expect it to be globally recognised or celebrated without mass adoption. Hopefully once Bitcoin reaches a new ATH and shows that it's not as volatile, more people would adapt to it and Bitcoin day will actually become a thing

Well people have answered your question; the day that the genesis block was mined. Although I have something else in mind. I think we're going to celebrate another milestone in the future. That would be the release of Bitcoin 1.0.0. It will however take years before we reach that point in time.

Yeah, I would assume, though, that they will make some version "jump" at some point in order to catch up. Development could actually speed up dramatically if Bitcoin continues to grow. Is there actually a fixed timeline or feature set for Bitcoin 1.0? The core protocol seems pretty well working, in my opinion...

Bitcoin's Birth Certificate below... snip Bitcoin is only 6 years old and counting, still got a lifetime ahead of itself. this is the date of the first transaction, but bitcoin birth is actually before that, satoshi started to work on bitcoin in the 2007 apparently a reminder http://historyofbitcoin.org/

That's an Great Idea!! We can celebrate it as a Bitcoin Day. Usually it is celebrated on 3rd of January every year when the first transcation was made.
Till then lets wish that we can have more and more members in our Bitcoins community.

Yep, one hell of a premine, almost half a year, more than 1.2 million bitcoins was premined, ha ha. I like bitcoin though, I am conftable using it and I trust the system.

There is no timeline nor feature set. There was some discussion in regards to this although I have no idea in which thread. The numbers don't really matter, companies jump often too. It would require a significant change in the code for us to reach 1.0 in regards to protocol or infrastructure. Bitcoin Core is okay, but there is a lot more room for improvement. You can notice that there are a lot of things that need to be fixed if you follow up on github. Besides 0.10.1 was just released to patch up a few things.

Yeah, the small improvements should just keep coming, no need to take steps that are too big and cause Bitcoin to stumble. I think 0.10.1 is pretty well done for a 0.10.1 version Also, Bitcoin core should only be the reference implementation with focus on the technology, protocol, and backbone. Shiny new wallets, etc. may be created by third parties and companies.

Afaik, the community celebrates bitcoin's birthday every 3rd of January. It isn't official but it still is significant because that is the date of the first tx on the network. Also, there is a bitcoin black friday too.

yep The transaction happened on 18th of May. If you read the progression of the thread here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=137.0 a user fulfilled laszlo's order for 10,000 bitcoins (almost $40 back then). So the pizza for bitcoins would probably sit on Monday, May 18.
