Unlike traditional banking where clients have only a few account numbers, with Bitcoin people can create an unlimited number of accounts (addresses). This can be used to easily track payments, and it improves anonymity.

You wallet is in the wallet.dat file.
blkindex.dat is related to the blockchain and you can download that again.

To restore your wallet in a new install, copy the wallet.dat file there.

The problem is caused by your wallet software, not the wallet itself.

It's safe to do whatever with blkindex.dat.

blkindex.dat is part of the blockchain database for whatever wallet you are using. You will have to rescan and reindex the entire blockchain which can take a few hours.

The wallet.dat file goes into the coin directory.  If you're using the standard location then for Bitcoin it is: ~/Library/Application Support/Bitcoin directory.

Jonny's Pool - Mine with us and help us grow!  Support a pool that supports Bitcoin, not a hardware manufacturer's pockets!  No SPV cheats.  No empty blocks.

try the repair fuction, otherwise you need to re-download the whole blockchain, you for the next time, save the whole folder, this will make things easy if it will happen again
