This is a great update, but can we disable this? I'm really aware of any imposter, because I check the account twice when I do any type of a deal here. It's really annoying to see this message 5 times in a group conversation in PMs...

I think it is better to be 'annoyed' by those warnings, than be scammed by an impostor ... or am I wrong?

You are wrong, at least in my case.. Like I said I double check the account before any trade is made, same as the address and the signed message I get, it's kinda annoying for me, but yeah, I can live with it Smiley

so you rather get scammed by an impostor than being annoyed by some trivial things? or did you misread redsn0w's question?

OMG You are more annoying than the message, please read my post again. I double check every account, address and signed message I get, so I can't be scammed when doing a trade!

I read your post. but it doesn't exactly answer the post you're answering to.  Roll Eyes

I know, but it's hard to answer this question.. annoyed by the warning or be scammed by an impostor? Like I said, I can't be scammed if the account + private key isn't hacked, I always ask for a signed message.. and warning is really annoying, so I can't aster this question without lying, but if I must to answer it, I would that it's better to get annoyed by those warnings.. personally I don't mind the warnings but if some people don't like it then I think it'll be far easier for all sides if there's an option for it, like how we can disable signature. of course it should be enabled by default.

I'd rather have it than not and thinks its a good addition to the forum but I'm like Somekindabitcoin and always double check when trading to make sure the person is who they say they are. Any change to the forum to reduce possible scams is good in my book Smiley.

cant you just put this message for imposter/similar names instead of all "newbies" Huh  Roll Eyes
i feel my name is unique.  (this was unexpected degradation, i would have chosen another communication channel...)
thanks

that will require Theymos and/or Badbear or whoever to manually keep track of EVERY new users that have a similar name with some other user. that's too much trouble for nothing little benefits.

Speaking of "newbie" i refer to design flawn in this particular status: I may have not been posting much,  yet not new either.  (Other status may be less flawned, yet crypto currencies live on egalitarian ideals)  Feedback/trust is already implemented.

Similarity in names(, if that's all,) can be done through string similarity algorithms  (easy).
Fraud prevention by message style similarity (short quotes) wont be too hard either.
Labeling users by IP networks may already be in place too

On similar names I'm guessing you mean when someone tries to look like another user.   The newbie warning helped stop scams, and people really do throw negative trust quick so they are not going to scam people.

As far as IP admins check on it.   We don't know all of what they do as it should be.  If we had a list of how all they use it people could try to avoid all the way's they use it.
