A new documentary was recently released, marking 15 years since Vladimir Putin first came into office. It describes the country he got from Yeltsin - a country falling apart, with dead economy, all major factories closed down (and often physically demolished), destroyed military, and with Islamic terrorism raging in Caucasus. A country, which many world leaders considered to be finished and disintegrating.

The documentary describes the slow and difficult process of bringing the almost dead country back to life, restoring the legal system and reigning in the oligarchs.

Lada Ray wrote a good summary of the documentary here:

To tell the truth, Russia was at the brink of disintegration by the time Yeltsin was booted out of office. All the national wealth was stolen by the oligrachs who were close to the drunkard. At that time, rural Russia was effectively being run by drug lords from Azerbaijan.

Putin revived the Russian nation. He crushed the Chechen rebels, and asserted Russian control over rebellious provinces such as Daghestan. During his term (2000-2015), the birth rate increased by 60% and the death rate decreased by 30%!!! Average wages increased by 1,000% during the same period. Most of the social parasites found refuge in criminal safeheavens such as the United Kingdom, as charges were brought against them.

This revealing (for Westerners - Russians lived through the destruction of the 90' and the slow rebuilding of the 00's) documentary has been translated into English and will be aired by Russia Today between the 11th and the 14th of June.

Well, the Americans and the British are pretty pissed off at Putin, because he prevented Russia from becoming another vassal state of the United States (just like Germany, Sweden, England.etc). The drunkard Boris Yeltsin was getting Russia very close to that, but Putin slowly pulled the Russians out of the NATO orbit.

I've added to the OP links to the remaining episodes of the English subtitled documentary.

“Dark times lie ahead of us and there will be a time when we must choose between what is easy and what is right.”
“We are only as strong as we are united, as weak as we are divided.”
“It is important to fight and fight again, and keep fighting, for only then can evil be kept at bay, though never quite eradicated.”
