So i installed bitcoin on Linux, using 12.04, extracted the file to my desktop and ran bitcoin-qt or whatever the executable was called. I transferred $22btc to my bitcoin wallet and now when I try to execute bitcoin wallet I am getting an error... please help me... is there a way to totally uninstall and reinstall?

This is the error message:

A fatal error occured. Bitcoin can no longer continue safely and will quit.

EXCEPTION: 22DbRunRecoveryException
DbEnv::open: DB_RUNRECOVERY: Fatal error, run database recovery

Don't worry. No bitcoins are lost.

Go to your home dir and press CTRL+H to show hidden folders and go to the folder named .bitcoin.
IMPORTANT Take a backup of the .bitcoin folder contents to another location.
Now delete all files EXCEPT the one named wallet.dat.
Start bitcoin-qt again and see if it works.

It will download the blockchain again, so it will take time.

Delete EVERY file/folder in Home or JUST the hidden files?

every file/folder inside the folder called .bitcoin, except for the file named wallet.dat <--- this one has your bitcoins.
Don't forget to make a backup of the files before you delete them. Take special care of the file named wallet.dat.

You have not lost your coins Yet.

You didn't touch the wallet.dat file, right?
Also, it worked because you had some corrupted database files in there. You better check your filesystem for problems.
And don't forget to backup the wallet.dat file regularly to avoid losing your bitcoins Wink

Had this happen to me once when my system took a dump while I was downloading the blockchain. Several hours (days - slow-ass blockchain) later, I had my Bitcoins back by following exactly those instructions, Psy. Is this in the Wiki?

If not, it should be.

Odds are pretty good that it was just addr.dat that you needed to delete.  That is the culprit like 90% of the time.  The good news is that the latest RC has swapped that out for a less annoying system.

The logs should indicate which file is causing the problem.

A little bit off topic, but sometimes a wallet gives errors when you change your data end time. I found that the hard way my clock was set 3-4 years back and the client f**ked up, but after I reset it everything was OK

Okay, here's another question, I withdrew 21btc from MTgox to my bitcoin address about 3 days ago, the btc still have not shown up in my wallet... I contact mtgox support and they said it was processed on their end... is that site some sort of scam or am I doing something wrong?

Was your bitcoin client open when they sent you the coins?
Since you deleted the blockchain to fix the previous error did your bitcoin client finished downloading it?
If you have a tx id you can check on blockchain.info if the coins are on the address you sent them to or not. You can even check it without the tx id just by checking the address balance.

Bitcoin says 6459 blocks remaining and 96.72% completed. Will my funds arrive at 100%? I dont believe bitcoin was open when I sent the money but I could be wrong.
When I punch my bitcoin address on blockchain it says I received 21.xxxx btc, however its still not showing up Sad

I dont understand what the tx id is, nor how to search it on blockchain.

No worries. you'll see the coins when the blocks finish downloading, probably a little bit before that even.

Yes. Your money should come when all blocks are downloaded.
