I'm going at ~4 million hashes a second. I started a few hours ago. What is the estimated time until I earn my 50 BTC?

http://www.alloscomp.com/bitcoin/old_calculator.phpgood luck edit - for some reason the difficulty on that calculator seems to be way too low for me, replace it with 434882.72175 Probability Time Average 5404 days, 14 hours, 48 minutes 50% 3746 days, 4 hours, 40 minutes 95% 16190 days, 18 hours, 50 minutes

The calculator I normally used has changed, to reflect the fact that most people these days are mining in pools. But it suggests that, if you were in a pool, you'd be earning about 0.01 BTC per day. On that basis, I'd strongly recommend pooled mining - my GPU gets me 340 million hashes a second, and I gave up trying to mine solo a couple of months ago (at which point it was estimated it would take me two weeks to receive 50 BTC).

You'll spend more than that on your electric bill, long before you ever are likely to get 50 BTC. There are more efficient ways to heat your house...

So, I got in early, and got a batch harvested via CPU (12/2010). Anyway to find out (roughly) the difficulty factor of my current batch and if it will finish in my lifetime ( @ 500K / sec )

118 years on average. You might be luckier...

Are we ever gonna have a short FAQ about this shit, or do newcomers just never read those?

Never read. I personally like the lottery analogy best. Though when you have things that give averages and estimates in time, it does give the first impression that it's a goal one is working towards instead of an abstract amount of time before you statistically win the lottery.
