I have about 20 S3s and S5s in a part of my home I used as a tornado shelter. I'm currently under a tornado watch, so I turn off my miners in case I have to head down there when the sirens go off — it is just too hot down there if I keep the miners going. Also these storms will often have a lot of lightning and possibility of power outages. However, if I didn't have kids and a wife at home, I'd just keep on mining.
I'm curious if others with small farms in their homes or even larger farms in dedicated buildings do anything special when they get severe weather.

Why don't you just place the miner above the ground? So it will free from any Severe Weather.

With the miners in the shelter area, I don't hear them and I can manage power and air flow to them better. Also if a tornado does rip my home from its foundation, my family and my miners will be the only thing to survive.

Sorry kids, but daddy bought some new miners... you're just going to have to tough it out up here.

Its a great idea to unplug your miners during an electrical storm and maybe even uplug the PSU's and whatnot. Electrical surges are TERRIBLE for any electrical equipment.. And I've lost a PC back in the day due to power surges. I couldn't imagine losing my mining equipment to an in-insured act of god such as lightning.

couldn't you put the miner in your houses(if they aren't many) and exhaust the heat outside, or use it in the autumn/winter(not the case now..)?

Would be insane to have a unit in space no more weather problems sola station free energy and zero temps can only dream.
With regarding your weather why not invest in a serge protector unit and also a small backup unit that has power for x amount of time alarms if their has been a power serge or brake and instantly switches to backup power unit or so. Or just have a good serge protector unit if wanting to keep running.

Uninterruptible power supplies for miners would be horribly cost prohibitive for the minimal protection they provide.

Exactly what I was thinking, those battery backups are really expensive and I think the most you can get is around 800w, you may be able to get higher but the cost is probably a lot more as well. YOu can get some good units that will power for 10 hours generating 1400w but would need a fair wack of them if using a lot of units probs out weigh and never brake even on cost for them

Luckily enough we don't get hurricanes or tornados in the UK. Its the extortionate cost of electricity here that's stopped me mining ($0.25 kw/h ). By the way just blame Vod next time you have extreme weather if you haven't heard already it'll be his fault .

I can only image telling my family "The tornado took all our family pictures, but I kept my miners safe!" Out of curiosity what is your safe room link? I can't imagine mining in my safe room.

You can keep your miners running, but what about the internet infrastructure? Answer to that would be if all connections are broke or down use wifi and cantenna or some wireless hub that does not need it using one of them usb dongle things comes in handy at times and for mining using data it don't use that much so problem solved their for Internet

same here. got tired unplugging all the electronics during thunderstorms. computers, most electronics and network stuff on battery backup. didnt do battery backup for miners, they are too power hungry, just let them glitch and restart.
