Hi,

I have seen many referrals today for this site, usually this is a warning sign to a Ponzi/HYIP. https://www.bitgold.com

After reading some of the posts it appears they want all your personal details to provide you with some "virtual" gold. which they hold for you. until you can collect at a vault, and im wondering how easy that would be...

I have also seen this website design, images before now on a few other sites.

Originally back in 2005, BitGold.com was a HYIP, You can view the wayback machine archive below.

Wayback Machine showing BitGold in 2005: https://web.archive.org/web/20050403034103/http://www.bitgold.com/

Since then, BitGold appeared to be doing very little, until January.

Please people be wary of this.

I have to say I have a hard time believing they are the same people. They seem like a legitimate startup in Canada. Also their 10g gold cube contest, one which I was a winner of has their name embossed into the gold. Seems like a lot of work compared to what is being claimed at a previous incarnation? Did the domain expire and get used by the now new bitgold.com?

Well I do imagine it is a different startup. But I was just pointing out the domain history and the link. I did find this though - https://web.archive.org/web/20140209215245/http://www.bitgold.com/

Also the whois shows it was updated (could be details like company or could be a transfer) and now has the status clientTransferProhibited. This would however have to have been manually asked to be put back on after a transfer. When I have transferred domains in the past clientTransferProhibited needs to be removed so transfer can commence. It seems to have expired and been bough back in 2006.

I have sent them a few questions anyway asking for further info just to see if they say any different.

You won the contest and received the cube of gold? Did you have to pay for shipping(where was the parcel sent from and was their a name or just the company's signage) and is it pure or just combination of other metals like filler metals?
I too am sceptical before putting any bitcoin or money into this. I want to know if it pays out what they claim to offer "Their weight in gold!"  Roll Eyes

I don't think its a scam and it has some notable backers. Instead I think its an attempt to take on Bitcoin and cryptos for low international fees. Basically you purchase a digital representation of gold they have in a vault somewhere. To make an international transfer, you would transfer your ownership of that gold to someone abroad. But make no mistake they are not using a blockchain, its 100% centralized and operated by a company. It has absolutely nothing to do with BTC whatsoever beyond taking on Bitcoin through marketing with the word "bit".

If you're into Bitcoin for low fees, it might be worth looking at. If you're here for the innovation, the infallibility, incorruptibility and free market of decentralized cryptos - its definitely not for you.

At the end of the day it is absolutely no different than standard banking except that the asset they back the bank with is gold and they promise not to create any debt. So they promise not to create more digital Bitgold money than there is real gold in their vault. The big failing with this is that its in their best interest to put more bitgold on their books than they have in their vaults. And if they don't break their promise about creating debt, someone else surely will because it would be the most obvious way to profit from the business they are running. If its successful and they are honest, they are doomed to be run out of business by more profitable competitors offering the same service but being smarter about it.

It appears that a lot of people are signing up on this new Site as they award free Gold after account approval, I just enquired further about it and then received the following email response:

"Thank you for initiating your sign-up. Currently, your account activation is pending approval. Once approved, the bonus gold will be credited to your account. Due to an overwhelming number of referrals, this can take up to 5 business days or more. We appreciate your patience regarding this matter.
Please note, different countries have various promotions running at different times, so follow us on our Social Media to keep up to date on promotions in your region."

It seems legit so far anyway

Bitgold is a trusted website and I've known people who have managed to redeem sucessfully. They rejected my ID card recently as they require a passport or another national ID card for verification. Their customer support is responsive which proves they are reliable.

I had an account with them and my friend sent $850 to my account to redeem it as he has no bank account to redeem the funds, my balance became $850 and every thing was great..... I sent them 4 support message to know what is wrong but NO ANSWER !!!!!!!! After 3 days they sent me this funny mail:
"Your account has been suspended in connection with the distribution of fraudulently obtained funds. The funds have been returned to the original cardholder and your account will remain suspended.
Thank you!

I'm not here to defend bitGold, but for what i've read on their site, you have to link a personal bank account (and personal means that you own that bank account) before you start sending money from a bank account, ad that you can't receive money from other bank accounts that are not in your personal use (intestate to your name), this because some country are not allowed to deal with this service, and receive money from another account not in you own property can cause to them problems, because it could be of a country not allowed for their services.... this is what i've understood reading tos and faqs...

I won't say that I didn't expect this to be honest , I provided my informations for the registration only but nothing for Bank or whatever . they really attracted shitload of people with their method of "invite a friend , he gets 25$ of gold , and you get 25$ of gold" (depends on country of course) . and the withrawal is after two months so we will see in couple of months how legit is this Grin

We are audited daily but the largest accounting firm in the country, to ensure complete compliance & accuracy.

Please don't listen to rumours, as they are a witch hunt at best.
