Why the free site?  Are you just farming email addresses?

Use a well known petition site.

Although it does seem a little unusual, it is possible that it also is not the case. The email is not required hence this method will not provide with a high amount of email addresses.
In any case I'd recommend people to stay away from this website. We could make a petition on one of the known websites and then share the link here.
Although I don't think that we can get a lot of votes just from the forum.

Has anyone tried starting a petition there.

Bitcoin needs a war chest for lobbying against this type of legislation.

I say take a percentage of the bitcoin block reward (eg. devcoin) and send it to an address controlled by the Bitcoin Foundation. Do some math and make sure the ratio is sufficient enough so BCF has the resources to fight the good fight.

Put Gavin in charge with full totalitarian hiring and firing rights, along with complete core update power. I would also like to see a red phone on his desk one day that would be a direct line to Satoshi, who would serve as his trusty adviser.

If it really comes down to funding being a problem, I think a lot of people in the Bitcoin community would be more than willing to make big donations to fund a effort to stop this kind of thing.

Someone at the foundation should offer a official bitcoin address on their webpage for donations to that cause and then pay someone to fight the fight on behalf of the community.  Angry

We cannot have people deciding on the future of Bitcoin in the USA, with a fight, where the bitcoin community or the organization presenting them, fight with their hands tied behind their backs.

We are up against huge companies, with huge pockets to bribe politicians.  Angry Angry

Yes, we are only a small group, but we are up against the North Carolina Banking Commission.

Charlotte, N.C. is one of the nation's largest banking centers. Please help by signing the letter or sharing bitcoinregs.org on Twitter, etc.

We are working on a petition, and we will post it when it's ready.

We're facing long odds on defeating this legislation in North Carolina, but anything you all can do would certainly be appreciated!

Such a website would indeed work. Although I do remember some polls being run back in the day, they weren't so successful.
I guess someone should try their luck?

http://voteno289.wix.com/voteno289

www.bitcoinregs.org

Edit: We're doing the best we can, folks! This bill just snuck up on North Carolina.

Please help Bitcoin and all cryptocurrencies by signing the letter. A similar bill could be coming to your state next.

Thanks for taking the lead on this. I'm not in North Carolina, but I hope it doesn't pass.

I agree it would be good if we had some kind of funding war chest to push back on this type regulation. Politicians respond to money.

Yeah, it all depends on how good the word is spread.
If a petition is to run there then we should spread the word in the forum.
the more people see it, the better the chances of the petition will be successful  Wink

NC is home to many of the big banks in the U.S.  Charlotte AKA "Banktown"  home to big banks like Bank Of America is now the second largest banking center in the United States (after New York). Wouldn't be hard for them to lobby the state politicians to regulate bitcoin, wonder if that's what is going on here.

There's an anti-bitcoin bill being debated in california right now too.

Basically, if you want to sell BTC in california then you have to pay a non-refundable $5000 fee to the institution, might or might not be approved, and then the state gets full oversight of your entire operation...

It's ridiculous.

That's outright insane! So how can I get bitcoins in Cali without those $5000 fee safely? Or simply, how can you buy without being tracked down by the gov't?

I'm from a different country, but I would gladly support this cause for our bitcoin brothers in NC. If this is possible, kindly cross-post this to other boards in the forum where it will be appropriate such as Politics and Society and Economy. I don't think that will be a bother in the first place.

Yes, that is ridiculous. H289 here in N.C. has a similar provision: a $1,500 non-refundable application fee and annual assessments of $5,000 plus transactions fees based on volume.

These bills appear as though they are part of a national effort. N.C. and Cali must be two of the guinea pigs.

Ill get the word out here in North Carolina about this!

Please do! The main problem we are facing is that N.C. legislators have simply not been educated about Bitcoin.

The problem can be fixed, or at least mitigated, if we can get the word out, and encourage people to offer their informed opinions to legislators.
