I have 15 active connections and have never had more than 8.
I thought 8 was the limit?

the default is at 8 yes, maybe you changed the parameters in the config?

or it could be because of your firewall not allowing it or not configurated in the right way

now I'm at 19 (11 in/8 out)
Hmm.. I'm not running thru a tomato router any more.
Let me try that.
Other than that 'something is wrong', what problem with more connections?
Maybe I've been granted honorary node status!

No, I haven't knowingly changed anything.

you allowed outbound connections then, and you are running a full node

there aren't many explanations

Thru the router now and it's back to 8 connections.

Found many answers here https://bitcoin.org/en/full-node#windows-7

You are allowed to have 8 maximum outbound connections, but can have an unlimited number of inbound connections. This can cause your total connections to go above 8.

Tomato has uPnP disabled by default IIRC your new probably has it enabled by default, unless its also some alt firmware. Bitcoin has enabled uPnP by default, thus the new router might have opened a pathway from the outside to your machine as bitcoin core requested.

I imagine thats roughly what you figured from the page as well?

Im not really here, its just your imagination.
