Windows worst version for you?

Vista in my opinion. Lots of stuffs in it that makes it the worst for me ,however 2000 was not good either. I can't remember the name of version they created but took it down quickly, it was a mixed of 2000 and Vista, horrible.

Windows ME? 

Windows 2000 was an enterprise class OS.  Wasn't meant for home use.  Windows ME was the home version, but buggy as hell.

Vista was good in my view. win 2000 and DOS were the worst.

Windows 2000 was pretty stable, even as desktop OS.
98/ME was crap. Windows for Workgroups dito.
What's always been (and still is) annoying as shit is that MS even blocks Admins from doing everything.
To be honest though, most problems come from users who install random crap without thinking.
Avoid headaches, use a VM for testing.

Where possible I use Linux now, where root is god.

The worst windows versions I used for at least 1 week:

1. Windows 98 (both FE and SE)
This drove me nuts as hell. Had this OS at work and it crashed almost every day. It was easy to mess up, properly booting up an old system required 5 tries on average.

2. Windows XP SP0
I tried XP as a dual boot system besides my Windows 2000 which I really liked. The shiny new Windows XP which hadn't any service pack yet felt more colorful and more enhanced than Windows 2000 but XP SP0 was slow, was overloaded and blue screened at random.

3. Windows Server 2012 (first releases; 2012 looks like Windows 8 )
I never connected in full screen mode because I didn't want the window to occupy my whole screen. The early versions had the start button missing which brought me fiddly times to get the mouse in the left bottom corner just in order to open the start menu. No, I couldn't use the "windows key" on my keyboard because it worked in full screen only. In windowed mode, it just opens the start menu on the host computer.

It was not that bad. But it had zero pros over Win98 and support for realtime DOS was removed. The system requirements also was little bit higher.

You're probably thinking of Windows Me. Windows XP can probably be described as a mix of 2000 and Vista since it was developed in between those two versions but it had a long life and most people don't consider XP to be a bad OS.

Also, I reckon 2000 was quite a good OS so I'm surprised to see that it's been mentioned several times in this thread. It was remarkably stable and ran reasonably well on low spec hardware. I used it for a while on my old laptop but had some problems with connecting to my wifi network so I switched to XP instead which is currently my favorite OS.

Worst for me was probably Windows 7 which came installed on my netbook. But that's probably got more to do with my netbook's low specs and the fact that it was the Starter Edition which didn't even let you change your own desktop background (although there were third party programs which removed this restriction). Never used the normal edition which I've heard is quite good.

I also never liked Windows 8 because of the interface and the fact that it runs so slow on a computer which has better specs than my XP laptop.

98 SE was a great OS for a while but it was very crash-prone and no matter how many times I reinstalled it, it would end up BSODing after a few months. Still, it was my favorite one until XP came along. 95 is a bit too old to make any meaningful comparisons with modern OSs but I remember it being nice back in its time. Everyone hates Vista but personally, I found it to be quite average and not particularly bad although I only used it for light tasks. I only used Me for a few days before switching to 2000 and then XP so I can't really make any judgements based on that but I remember it being very similar to 98 SE.

That (not the same error but an error message during install) happened to me when I was installing Windows XP once. That particular error message is probably either related to memory or VM issues.

Vista crashed as soon as you looked at it before service pack one. After that I only got one or two crashes a week. After service pack two and some very hard work I managed to get it running without crashing at all for a year or two.

By the time windows 7 came out I found vista more stable than it to begin with.
