It's most likely Mitt Romney's team rushing to Gox to buy bitcoins to stop the release lol

Still intermittent down times for me, although the site does seem to be gaining speed.

Might not be a bad idea to have the forums hosted somewhere other than the biggest exchange... when the bitcoin world goes dark, it really goes dark....

I agree, just in case this intermittent downtime reoccurs in the future. Or, at the very least, add a secondary host as a backup.

I've been having intermittent periods of slowness or downtime on here the past few weeks, it's not just traffic from the Mitt crowd. It usually passes before too long, so I haven't worried.

It tends to happen when there's a drama in progress and people are constantly checking for updates.  The pirate debacle probably drove increased traffic over the last few weeks.  Today's problems are likely people Googling "Bitcoin" as a result of the Romney thing combined with people wanting to know what's happening regarding Bitfloor.

All I can say is that this is Bitcoin. I don't believe it until I see six confirmations.

Someone on IRC mentioned a SYN flood against Mt Gox today, but I haven't seen anyone confirm or refute it.
