I'll also use Linux instead of Windows whenever possible, but I thought MS released a free 90-day-trial for people to test Win8? I just don't know if people can activate (or "activate") that copy or if it will obligatorily stop working after 90 days.

Yeah, that's what I'm trying to find out, as I have a laptop where w7 needs to be reinstalled anyway, so I figured I'd give w8 a try if possible.

I have the MSDN license.  Its available now through MSDN.  So this release is the release that is DUE TO BE on the store shelves in a few weeks.

I'm Running Win 8 Pro RTM currently on my main system for 3-4 weeks now. If memory serves me currently Oct 26 is the release date.

So far it only complains that the copy isn't registered yet only every 4-6 hours or so, by popping up a blue windows saying hey wanna register? you just click in the upper left corner to go back to your desktop and its gone.

Metro is really funky on a desktop, I think normal consumers are going to revolt on the "Metro" interface.

But as IT, this is a great OS for me because new computer users aren't going to be able to do anything to repair there system. Its like windows its hidden thru two layers on anything you want to do.
Since windows 7, the start menu is being used less and less everything is being pinned to the task bar.

But when I wanna feel geeky again, I just login to my Ubunutu Server Box lol

Microsoft has made it pretty easy to "reset" the OS, that is, formatting it. Users will just wipe everything instead of calling support, and probably they won't even need to care much about backups if they choose to give all data to Microsoft and sync their account online.
But yes, Microsoft hid pretty well the safe mode as well as the other recovery options.
