Anyways, I do not think we need a Bitcoin social network. I think we need the ones who already exist to accept Bitcoin Smiley

Like all the social media websites already out there. We don't need more, it will add to the confusion, we just need the ones we have to accept Bitcoin. Examples that come to mind: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Tumblr, SoundCloud, Weibo, Ello...

None of them accept Bitcoin, e.g. Instagram has only #bitcoin, Facebook only fan pages and Tumblr is a Blog System.

i think the more the better, we start with something small like this, which could lead as to be accepted from those big social network, if they really see some competition, in the sense that if you can steal them a big portion of their users base, they would adopt bitcoin to regain their users, in theory

We already have the mainstream social networks. Facebook for friends and family, twitter for short, fast public messages and the communities in Reddit and Bitcointalk for simple but populated places to talk about bitcoin. Maybe Linkedin for our professional needs too. All those social networks have people interested in bitcoin using them.

If you were to create another social network you'd have to create something unique and innovative. I'm not sure how this could be achieved yet, but it's good that you came here to ask for ideas. For now, it's interesting that you're looking to start with an open source platform. But I believe that it'd take more than that to attract the bitcoin crowd into such a project. Perhaps unique features other social media can't offer. If prominent members of the community felt the need to join the network, the rest of the members would slowly follow.

Wow thank you for the productive answere. This was just an idea, i could work on it and try to make it unique.

Why you think it interesting to use an OpenSource Network ? You know Bitcoin is Open Source.

Why you think it interesting to use an OpenSource Network ? You know Bitcoin is Open Source.
The open source culture is great at allowing projects to be a community effort. Bitcoin.org is maintained through GitHub and is a great example of how an open source website can work. If someone would like something changed there he/she could either propose a change or post the changes through GitHub. If it's good they're good enough they will get approved and implemented quickly. Even people without programming experience are able to help by translating, writing down content or detecting errors in the website and proposing new features.

Another good example would be bustabit.com (formerly moneypot), a gambling website that has released its code publicly on GitHub as well. After having the code audited by an expert (dooglus) to make sure that there aren't any crucial vulnerabilities its creator released the code under a AGPL-3.0 licence.

Of course creating something like that requires quite a bit of work and extensive support.

Website was not found...

Anyways, I do not think we need a Bitcoin social network. I think we need the ones who already exist to accept Bitcoin Smiley

It is not found, because DNS need about 24-48h.

Thank you for your opinion

PS: " who already exist to accept Bitcoin" like who ?

Like all the social media websites already out there. We don't need more, it will add to the confusion, we just need the ones we have to accept Bitcoin. Examples that come to mind: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Tumblr, SoundCloud, Weibo, Ello...

Must of the ones that break through offer some new concept like the ones listed here.  Very hard to create a copy cat just look at altcoins.  The network effect is hard to crack.

Doesn't Twitter already have a bot that autotips you Bitcoin? or im mistaking it for Youtube?

Anyway, I would love actual official implementation, and not some 3rd party solution.

Do we need such a thing ?

No.   Undecided

Facebook already has well established groups for Bitcoin.

https://nastyscam.com - featuring 13 years of OGNasty bitcoin scams     https://vod.fan - advanced image hosting - coming sooner than you think!

Frankly, I wouldn't want a social network just to talk about money (because Bitcoin is money, after all)

An economy based on endless growth is unsustainable.

A large percentage of Bitcoin users, and people interested in bitcoin value their ability to stay relatively anon, and by definition a social network will associate your identity with your account. This would make it unlikely that a lot of people involved in bitcoin would be interested in joining. Created a bitcoin social network would also not do anything to expand the number of people who own and use bitcoin.

As is the case with other social media sites, it would be easy to create accounts associated with fake identities, which although it would somewhat counter the above point, it would also make it so it would be easier to scam because people would be more comfortable with what they think is someone's real identity when in fact it is not. Where there is bitcoin, there is bound to be a lot of commerce for what is hopefully obvious reasons.

Lastly there is the issue that most/all social media sites already have groups (and similar) that are dedicated to bitcoin so creating a social media site specifically for bitcoin would really not accomplish very much

Like this idea! Crypto world lacks bitcoin related social network! I think bitcoin would love to go there and talk about any crypto related ideas. Besides that, the website includes a lot of new features and opens to any contributions (install customized modules to expand its usability).
