"Honduras, one of the poorest countries in the Americas, has agreed to use a Texas-based company to build a permanent and secure land title record system using the underlying technology behind bitcoin."

If you'd gone back to 2012 and back and suggested the blockchain would be used by a national government within three years in a vital capacity you would almost certainly have had your bottom spanked.

Is there really much point in squealing about $5 price movements up or down at the moment?

This is interesting news, that's for sure.

People really need to focus on the positive side of Bitcoin instead of the price .... Smiley

Yeah, the amount of positive news is stagering. I find it funny how people, aka the common folk is missing on all of this. I thank the whale overlords for letting us peasants getting on BTC really cheap again before it goes literally jupiter.

Excellent use of a blockchain. It will show this technology is robust. I suppose all landowners will need to download that blockchain, and that the big difference with BTC will be that every transaction will need government's certification.

I used to be a citizen and a taxpayer. Those days are long gone.

Really? I can't see that being the case at all.

All they'll be doing is registering through the government who'll go to Factom and they'll place the hashes on the blockchain. I'm sure plenty of landowners won't have the slightest clue what it really consists of. What they will know is that their claims can no longer be corrupted.

Well, it's quite true they won't need to download that blockchain, but I would because it would be smart, and make every landowner an active citizen, a certified bookkeeper, of land registry in Honduras.

Now I wonder if everything will be public, just like with BTC because it would mean the poor will be able to see all the properties the rich have.

I used to be a citizen and a taxpayer. Those days are long gone.

...

I don't know, because I am not an expert, but this use of the blockchain looks like great news to me.  Factom is readying itself to be the "wholesaler" of placing hashed information on the blockchain.

Someone is going to make big $$$ on this, wait and see!

Even lil ol moi has put up a document or two on the blockchain!  Cheap and easy ways to explore the idea:
