Hey guys

I have a gigabyte 890gp-ud3h motherboard and I cannot instill gpus on the 1x slots... Doesn't matter the GPU or how many are in the comp... If one card is being used in 1 pci-e 1x slot the computer will boot but I cannot install drivers for the cards(using ati)...

Maybe I'm doing something stupid... But even with 2 cards in the 16x slots... If I add a card to any of the 1x slots... It isn't recognized.

Thanks for any help you can give me.

I'm assuming that you have it powered correctly with a ribbon cable?

I have it powered with the 16x to 1x riser... And whatever additionaly pci-e power cords are required based on card...

I uninstalled 12.6 and I am installing 12.8 now to see if that works... I have a 5850 in the 16x slot and a 5970 in a 1x slot to test.

So now I can't get 12.8 to work either... Everything installs but the drivers... I have the original setup that was working this morning... 2x 5850s and I can't get drivers to install at all.

Anybody know some good driver sweeping programs?

On my older gigabyte motherboard I have to jumper a couple of pins on the pcie slot to get gpus recognized.

I finally had to repair windows... I feel like I have to repair windows 7 every month or so... I guess I'm switching out hardware pretty often but I hope windows 8 improves in this arena.

Anyways, still can't get the 1x slots to work but I will try researching it a little.

Shot in the dark, try disabling onboard audio/usb 3 ports/raid controllers?

Did you ever try shorting PCI-E presence pins?

Nope... that is on the agenda for this weekend... Will update when I try it. Visiting the girlfriend a couple hours away though so I probably won't get to it till sunday. Sucks, cause I have 2 or 3 cards just laying around at the moment.

Also picking up a board/cpu/and ram for $45 this weekend so that should be remedied no matter what!

Thanks guys

Test each slot and the extender ribbons individually to make sure all of them work. If they all work find individually, it might be a motherboard limitation in how the BIOS is coded, or bad drivers from ATI.
