Dunno if this is the right section, but this is the place where most of these phrases surface.

I'm talking about the same old phrases from people that demonstrate a shocking lack of foresight or basic comprehension or perhaps plain unwillingness to think things through properly.

I'll get the ball rolling -

"we will never see 300/400/whatever again" - when the price is on the up. Usually it's welcomed back within fifteen minutes.

"the price will never go above $250 again" - when the price is $249.87 and it would break it with 0.01 BTC bought.

"this is the calm before the storm" - nothing happens for another three months.

There are many more for me but hit us with the ones that get you groaning the most.

what about this one?

we recently dropped from $680 to $300 with some dead cat bounces,
now $520 is the new top bubble and a new downtrend to $350 incoming!
many fools are satisfied because of a $50 raise after a $200 dropped, drop your fake hopes now!

$550 has been broken ! $500 has been broken ! $400 has been broken ! everyone is cashing out !

Bitcoin price is dropping hard and no one is buying, final capitulation warning ! bitcoin game over !

Stop listen to those "cheap coins" yelling scammers / liars including: fonsie / dropt / maker88 / Sevvero and other bull scammers
sell all of your bitcoin now to cut loose ! the price is going to nowhere but lower and lower until $0

You have been warned since $680 !

I never heard that one.

Forgive my petulance and oft-times, I fear, ill-founded criticisms, and forgive me that I have, by this time, made your eyes and head ache with my long letter. But I cannot forgo hastily the pleasure and pride of thus conversing with you.

"1 BTC = 1 BTC" Well, it sure does, but that one BTC buys you a lot less than it did a year ago. It's a cop out for those that are trying to convince themselves that they did the right thing buying at such high levels and holding all the way down.

And on that note...
"HODL" Self explanatory

agree "1 bitcoin = 1 bitcoin" rates very high on any list but what is the best of the best is the huge handdrawn arrow on any chart. The poor data (eg very short time period) or the poor trendline (eg wrong starting point) is all somehow supposed to be overlooked by the viewer if the future directional arrow by the chartist  is large enough, thick enough and in a vibrant colour.  Roll Eyes

Another old chestnut -

"The price just can't get close to gold parity again. That would be ridiculous"

Right.

Come with me on a journey through time and space. Together we will learn that there's over 400 times more ounces of gold than there are bitcoins.

If we use 'mathematics' that means, fuckin' insane as it may sound, that if two items are the same price but there are 400 times more of one item, that's not quite the same overall valuation if you go away and really, really think it over.

add in the term "capitulation".

bears and one off posters use it all the time and its sound great as its a very emotive term. they sometimes add "total' or 'real' or "final" as a prefix as though this makes the price drop even more sensational/likely.

yes if in a war and if I am on the side that capitulated i would care very much it happened.

but is is meaningless to those that own bitcoin for the longer term since they do not see the the current price (at around $250 as anything more than just a current price) so if it drops to say $60 ('a typical so called capitulation price ") they will still own the same number of bitcoins and will wait for it to trend up again. They will not give up believing in bitcoin nor get out of being bitcoin owners so they are not in any sense 'capitulating'.

I do though love some of the colourful ways it gets mentions eg

In a December 2013 post a person wrote "For final capitulation to happen,  fear has to leave the scene to despair and eventually apathy".

so i would like not to see its use die out (or be given up or to capitulate)

excuse the corny bit at the end - i could not help myself

Yes, that one gets my goat too.

What an exhausting place financial markets must be if every single rise can only happen off the back of every single person being involved in each item reaching the edge of suicide.

Then, just as the final noose is wrapped around the final neck, a young orphan fights her way out of the rubble. Still clutching her teddy she struggles to the nearest Bloomberg terminal.

Her fingers shaking, vomit foaming at the edge of her mouth, blood trickling out of her nose, she places the first order that has happened in over 43 months. At that very moment the sun emerges from behind the clouds and the birds start to sing.
