I'm looking into buying miner.
My choice us between antminer s5 1150gh/s 590watts
Or scrypt miner 20mh/s 240 watt.
What's better?
Or maybe nothing?

Every time a block is mined, a certain amount of BTC (called the subsidy) is created out of thin air and given to the miner. The subsidy halves every four years and will reach 0 in about 130 years.

Use a mining calculator--one of these miners is a terrible decision, it's up to you to find out which one.

Always use escrow. OgNasty is pretty sweet.

Help me out with compiling a list of mining datacenters!

As far as starting off I highly suggest going BTC way.  Scrypt is a different game, and in my opinion much harder to get money back.

If you look at scrypt it's so low profit it has not attracted new machines in a very long time.   A2's are still almost the best scrypt minners and they have been out forever.

With BTC there is current hardware.  Also you don't have to play with other coins your mining BTC direct.

What's your cost for electricity, and how much noise/heat can you take?

You need to know this to decide if any miner is financially reasonable. If it's over $.12/KWh, then the S5 is a no-go. I don't know about the Scrypt miner.

Even if it's under that I think scrypt is a no go.  I cannot explain why but people seem to run them even at a loss.  There are a TON of old zeus/hashra, etc.  Gear that is horribly inefficient but people still believe in alt coins and use them.

Scrypt needs new chips bad but I don't see anyone throwing money at it besides the dual miner of Sfards.  And once that is released we will find out  for sure if btc mode or scrypt or mixed makes the most.  I'm suspecting BTC mode will be it's best money maker.

This is pretty much a direct cause and effect from GAW_ZEN-Paycoin   their methods pretty much crushed the alt coin market.

thanks for reply
noise not a problem have garage:)
cost of eletricity 0.13 usd
tommorow getting A2 mini miner 29mh/s at 350watts. but thinking about getting s5 or another miner i can get at good price with 20mh/s at 240watts.
i know scrypts require more work and using exchanges (and losing profit during that)
signed up for smarterhash and with other calcs posted here i can see scrypt being more profitable with right coin at right time.

It's not that they lose profit to exchanges.  Scrypt is hard to mining the coins are not worth enough.  If you have not commited to buying the A2 I would not get it.  Just not profit there.

When you look at calcs of the best coin it changes a lot.  And so many pools and hash jump at it it switches quick.   So even multipool is still hard.

I would stick with BTC for the moment.

BTW,most places like   http://www.coinwarz.com/cryptocurrency?sort=profitusd&dir=asc  ,don't update the diff very fast of every coin,so the diff could be from way back  Roll Eyes

Best to look at the prices of coins on an exchange, then find a small pool with stats of miners showing how much coin each mhs or khs makes per day & do the math..............

My scrypt mining is from way back to Smiley so guess that is why I turned there.

I just think a lot of people got burned that were supporters of altcoins.  When the A2's cameout it was a massive price, and they dropped so fast it was hard to believe once price was dropping.

Only  way you ROI'ed was if you were lucky on timing and also rented it getting huge markups.  I will admit I was very lucky to make it in this category.

At this point I suggest to most to go BTC way of mining and just buy altcoins if you want them.   Mining them is pretty hard as difficulty rise, rewards drop on scrypt coins yet no new gen miners.  It's a equation that does not work out.
