I fail to see the connection in your thread? You link to a article explaining that Bitcoin was never hacked, but your title is, " Coinbase accounts are closed due to US Govt sanctions "

What are you trying to say here?

Was your account locked or closed by Coinbase, because of US Govt sanctions?

If you like the convenience of a web wallet and still want something that offers you most of the capabilities a bitcoin wallet could offer you should try greenaddress. It's quite amazing for what it is.

That wasn't very nice.
Was it stated in their Terms of Service that they could/would do that?
Did you have any funds in your web wallet?

I arrived at the same misleading assumption. At first, I though US based coinbase accounts were being disabled "due to US Govt sanctions," though the content suggests otherwise. Instead, accounts created on Coinbase were being systematically disabled based on their geographical location.

Did they refund your coins or just kept them as part of blocking your account ? I find the sites and wallets very unethical in the way they operate these day.

Thank god for crypto we wont have to deal with this in the future, the concept of country needs to just die already, nobody can relate to it the same anymore.

To me, this looks like a new thread to promote an old Cointelegraph article....

Coinbase may have flagged your account because you did something wrong, accidentally used a VPN or they just did a random security check on the account. Looks very Paypal-esque to me tbh.

There are so many other places that the US has no reach. Why would someone in Iran use a US website to buy bitcoins?

Why even post here, it's not shocking, Coinbase is doing nothing wrong. I know the US want's too much control over the world, but it's not the people's fault, it's not the companies fault. Don't blame the people or the small companies.

I suppose its because there are not a lot of secure options in other countries to use as a web wallet . Also I haven't ever used the wallet, but I assume it does not clearly state that other country residents are not allowed to use it(but I might be wrong with this) .

Sorry to see that you reside in the country that ISIS is presenting. This action is to limit the ability of ISIS crowdfunding I believe.  Grin

It's quite possible that your name or business showed up on OFAC (http://sdnsearch.ofac.treas.gov/).

Working in commercial finance we are required to screen every applicant that seeks a loan with us. If there is a match we are required by BSA to reject the transaction. I'm sure Coinbase has similar compliance requirements.
