>throw disadvantaged minorities in prison for victimless, drug-related crimes. >force them to work for less than a dollar an hour > ?? >PROFIT Federal Prison Industries (FPI), a corporation owned by the federal government, employs more than 13,000 inmates at wages from 23 cents to $1.15 an hour, making everything from military apparel to call center and help desk support to solar panels and selling the products to the Pentagon and other federal agencies.
FPI, also known as UNICOR, operates inside 83 federal prisons and made more than $900 million in revenue last year.
In March Tennier Industries, which also makes military clothing, fired more than 100 employees after losing out to FPI on a new $45 million contract from the Defense Department.

Yes, if your slaver gives you food, water and a little spending money, it's totally not slavery. It's freedom.

Just for some perspective, China has a very oppressive communist government, has something like 1.6-1.7 billion people, and only has something like 1.2 million prisoners. United States by contrast only has 310-320 million people and imprisons 2.3 million or so people.

In China, they just kill you instead. "Watchdog groups believe that actual execution numbers greatly exceed officially recorded executions; in 2009, the Dui Hua Foundation estimated that 5,000 people were executed in China — far more than all other nations combined.[2] The precise number of executions is regarded as a state secret." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capital_punishment_in_ChinaIn the US, it's more like 50 deaths/year.

So what?
It's a prison. I imagine there are worse things than making your cigarette and anal lube money making DOD uniforms and working at a call center. Make 'em work harder, it's not a vacation- it's punishment. Put them all on Dachau rations and amp up the work production requirements. That would get a few of the "victimless" criminal to stop breaking the law, and if not, so a couple of hundred kick the bucket? Who cares? They were drug dealers, no loss there.

Messed up. Just as bad as shipping jobs over to China. I hear lots of Americans complaining about China, but never heard any complain about this. Wonder if the general population really knows about this. I didn't know about it till I seen this. Would be awesome if the major media did a story on this but they are owned by the government also I've been told.
This program has pros and cons. I think keeping them busy and working gives them something to do and might cut down on them fighting within. So if they want to do this, maybe pay them minimize wage.. idk. Might help with competition. Then maybe the prison inmates could put that money in a bank account and have some money saved up for when they get out. So then maybe they could use that money to get a place, some nice cloths then try to get a job and fit back in to society. I hear some of the prison inmates getting out of prison will be lost and don't know what to do with their new found freedom so they will do crimes again to go back to prison so they will be back to something they feel conformable with.

In the US, it's more like 50 deaths/year. 50 per year you say? I was under the impression that NYC police alone execute close to that number per year. Heck Obama's personal kill list is longer than 50 right? Just wondering if you included people like Chavis Carter or Abdulrahman al-Awlaki in the list? Oh and of course, yes the precise number in the US is also regarded as a state secret: http://www.mapinc.org/drugnews/v04/n772/a05.htmlIf you include people who were so retarded as to be born in other places like Iraq, this number might get just a tad bit higher than the 5000 you quote from china. But looking carefully yes, these people all were alleged criminals, allegedly black, allegedly poor, allegedly terrorists, or allegedly jewish.. so yeah they had it coming to 'em right? After all if you can't kill innocent women and children after labelling them terrorists or drug dealers, you can't really call yourselves a civilized nation can you?

The criminal and prison statistics frighten me as a gun owner and advocate. More and more people every year are disarmed for offenses having nothing to do with violence or firearms. This tells me that they do not want people armed who disobey the state. If there ever comes a time this nation needs to defend itself against threats foreign or domestic, the people that they may be fighting will have already disarmed the most threatening to them. I am all for Just punishment appropriate for the crime if loss or injury is involved. I believe most law is about controling you and hidden taxation.

People who are pro prison labor are forgetting 2 very important things here. First and foremost even if you have zero concern for the prisoners, the fact is if they are working for pennies that drives everyone else's salary down, in prison or not. Second you are providing quite an incentive for a quota system, putting innocent people in greater danger of being imprisoned solely for profit. Some of the newer prisons that are being built by private companies are demanding 90% capacity BY CONTRACT. That means on an industrial level as well as the local level there is a quota, forcing officers to choose people to falsely prosecute or lose their job. So in short, it effects all of us not just the "criminal scum" everyone is fond of hating on while they forget to look how badly they are being fucked.

A well armed (to the frickin' teeth) society is one where the public servants will answer to the will of the citizens, not the other way around. Private label prisons are just another reason for bug out bags, concealed carry and ammunition stockpiling.
