No the ones that profit out of it  was the ones that bought his 10k BTCs. But who knows maybe he invested his money into some good business and get even more then what he could by holding this BTCs.

using bitcoins to buy pizzas is a good idea.
there aren't alot of pizza shops that use bitcoins yet. may be in future you will get some real life pizza stores where you can buy some pizzas for bitcoins.

As much as I'd like to get involved with bitcoin pizza day and hope it catches on as a genuine bitcoin holiday celebration, I don't want to end up spending bitcoins that may considerably rise in value like what happened with the original guy  .

It was 5 pizzas(or Pizzen like we say in Austria) for me and my working colleagues.
Sadly, the ones, who don't know (much) about Bitcoin, didn't ask question, but where just glad about the free pizza.
